I'm new here. But seeing so many people's enthusiasm for developing DOS, I can't help but say a few words.

First of all, I highly agree and support this idea: having our own free and open-source DOS!

But there are also some questions:

Most of the time, DOS works in real mode. And in this mode, many operations are inevitably inconvenient. For example, memory operations (although there are methods to access 4G, it's probably difficult to handle above 4G), multitasking, multithreading, etc. Compared with that, working in protected mode is better. Of course, more drivers are required in protected mode.

From the perspective of development needs, maybe it only meets the development needs of some people (maybe out of curiosity). For the application of most people, DOS is difficult to meet, so this development may not be so necessary.

The above remarks may have made everyone unhappy. Please forgive me.

DOS has its simple advantages and was a symbol of an era. Of course, there is a possibility of "reviving the extinct, rejuvenating the perishing, and elevating the forgotten." After all, a garden full of flowers is spring.
To support DOS in carrying forward the past and opening up the future, we should be practical. It is not necessary to rebuild the kernel. Confucius said: "Applying it to government affairs, this is also being in government."

"Morning mushrooms don't know about the period from dark to dawn, and蕙菇 don't know about spring and autumn." This is what Zhuangzi said, referring to the fact that there are many species in the world, and each has different ways of survival, which is to achieve a free and easy state, and call on people to follow nature, not to argue endlessly for simple unification. Buddhism also says: "Each gets its proper place", which should come from the Buddhist purpose of "all dharmas follow fate".

And Darwin's "theory of evolution", people won't understand it as "today's monkeys will become humans tomorrow", right! If understood like this, then there will be only one species left in the world, that is, the most advanced human, but in fact, humans are not better than other creatures in everything. For example, these two days I have eye disease, human eyes are far inferior to dragonflies.

But this plan hasn't been implemented yet. Is it off?

I want to say: To truly fulfill your ideas, first of all, you yourself need to have a high level. This level is not only the technical level but also your social level. If you are from Tsinghua University or Microsoft, you must be able to come into contact with the hidden secrets. I hope I am that person, but I feel that my strength is not enough. Before, in high school, I thought my computer was the best among my peers, and I spent all my time on the computer. Now, I am just a junior college student. I have read many books and certificates, such as the CISP certification (since I am a student, I took the NISP). I have many feelings. Currently, I plan to transfer to a bachelor's degree and plan to take the postgraduate entrance examination. My goal is Tsinghua University!!!
