I believe a lot of people are doing the same kind of work I'm doing. If I lowered the requirements a bit more, it could probably be even smaller!

That's fine, but at least it should be able to get online, otherwise there's no point in simplifying it. Using a very small version of opera as a substitute would also be okay.

There should be a limit to trimming. Otherwise, just talking about how many MB it is is meaningless. If you delete directx, then basically it won't be able to play video anymore. Maybe we should put it this way: for a win98 slimmed down according to certain requirements, how many bytes does it take?
For example:
1. Business type
2. Multimedia type
3. Gaming type

I tried the simplified edition. If the driver isn't on the CD, it can't be installed. The graphics card, sound card, everything has to be installed, so it's completely useless. I've decided not to use overly simplified software anymore.

I've used it
but there are problems with installing a lot of drivers.
The speed did get much faster though.
For example, the installed sound card is wrong.
There are always lots of question marks showing up.
What is the reason for this?
How much does it have to do with what was trimmed?

The win98 I'm using now is 31M (a GHO file compressed by 50%). It can go online, do programming, play games..... no loss of functionality, and it's still very fast. Up to now I haven't found any problems with it, and I haven't found anything smaller than this either......

If reducing the size has to come at the cost of reduced functionality, then it loses the meaning of an operating system and can only serve as a tool.

But if it's just a tool, then 14MB is too big.......

I agree with the poster above. What we really need is a usable system,
not a deliberately compressed "toy".

I think a 40M WIN98 should be pretty good. But I haven't used it. Who can give a URL?
