Re: post #21 by cn_archer

I won’t answer the issue you raised for now. Let’s first see whether you can answer the following questions:
1. Who will make these systems?
2. Who is capable of making these systems?
3. Who will take the lead and provide leadership?
4. Who is willing to work under the guidance of the leader?
5. Who will pay them?

The fifth point may seem a bit... but in China, this is very realistic.

Seeing everyone work so hard here makes me very happy, but to use a very impolite phrase to describe it: “a pile of loose sand.” My feeling is that it will be very hard to turn into anything big! Even though there is a lot of activity here! But there is a lack of unified management, no reasonable system, so everyone can only rely on their own experience and a little simple practical demand, plus the efforts of a few “experts,” to achieve that tiny bit of limited success. It’s not that everyone lacks ability, but rather that these abilities have not been brought together in a reasonable way and have not produced the effect of 1+1 > 2; it is still at the stage of 1+1 = 1.1.

I registered on this forum because I saw that there really are several talented people here with good ability, and they have also been working hard and contributing to this forum all along. But I do not want their ability, energy, and time to be spent on “small” matters. It is time to think about how to make the cake in your hands bigger.

What the poster above said is right. At least in present-day China, it is a reality we can do nothing about. However, that does not mean we should give up hope!

Getting to know the DOS Union came from an accidental GOOGLE search, but the reason I registered and keep paying attention to this forum is not only the technical level here.
The tutorial room, the boot disk room, the multimedia room... and also the many software packages and articles that have been organized, including the patient answers from the moderators and registered members to newbie questions... I think the DOS Union has already given a lot...

As for the questions raised by the poster above:
1. Who will make these systems?
2. Who is capable of making these systems?
3. Who will take the lead and provide leadership?
4. Who is willing to work under the guidance of the leader?
5. Who will pay them?

I think a forum, or rather an unofficial grassroots technical union, cannot possibly produce something that surpasses the Windows series. Maybe these views of mine are a bit extreme, but this is reality!
Is Microsoft's Windows the best operating system in the world? No! As everyone knows, many of Microsoft's ideas were copied, the number of holes in its products is beyond counting, and such a huge market share was obtained in large part through some improper competitive means... However, it is now the authority, the standard recognized worldwide, the biggest software company in the world, and the reality that most people who understand computers and those who don't are willing to accept!!!
What is the reason?
Commercial operation!

Microsoft can quickly turn the products in its hands into money, turn other people's ideas into its own ideas, turn its own standards into the public's standards... Such a positive cycle may perhaps also be something some domestic companies can achieve. But from the DOS era to the Windows 95 era, and then to WinXP and Windows 2003... Microsoft has never stopped moving forward, while our domestic Stone RichSight, Founder, UCDOS... in technical terms they really were ahead of us, but more often we are consuming ourselves internally...

This is an extremely vast undertaking! And the domestic market and commercial operation here are completely unable to compare with Western capital operations... To make a not very appropriate analogy, if everyone is now struggling on the poverty line and cannot even solve the problem of food and clothing, then it is absolutely impossible that there would still be any thought of contributing to society or seeking happiness for mankind's future. Even if there is, it is self-deception!

If there absolutely has to be some result, then at the very least the first goal should be to turn the technology in our hands into money. In fact, I don't believe the moderators of the DOS Union haven't thought about this, but where to start, and how to realize it?
Once these substantive things get involved, one unavoidable issue is investment! Investing manpower, material resources, money, time...
And yet there may still be no result, which means there is risk. Brother stlily, if it were you, would you be willing to put up this risk capital?
A few hundred or a thousand may not be much of a problem. If you're relatively well-off, maybe even tens of thousands would be a small CASE, but tens of thousands is not enough! Even hundreds of thousands or millions might not be enough to build China's Windows! If you had assets like that, would you be willing to make that investment?

These are all things that need to be realized, but we cannot and do not need to do them. That is the function of the state apparatus; individuals or grassroots organizations are powerless to realize it.

More realistic would be to consciously organize some interested members, develop some practical and popular technologies, or do some basic technical popularization and education, similar to the previous "China DOS Union boot disk project." That is actually quite likely to be realized, and quite likely to be profitable.
Of course, the market must be fully investigated.

I'm just a bored person who often has some bored ideas, and is often all talk and little action. At the very least, my technical level is really newbie-level.
As for the things I've said, those who can accept them or discuss them together are probably friends who feel the same way... and those who cannot accept them or dismiss them are probably friends too, just people with different ambitions, or perhaps with a higher state of mind.

With difficulty brandishing a long halberd, for ten thousand ages relying on one man. Life is getting harder and harder...

^_^, so lively, but it's gone a bit off topic. Still, having a place like this on the Internet where everyone can freely exchange, learn, and share is meaningful in itself. Many new friends found this place only because they had this kind of need, and that is its meaning. Who knows what kind of people the webmaster and onlookers here really are—forget system research, even bigger state secrets might be possible. ^_^, hope this site keeps getting better and better.

We don't know what many of the tools in the moderator's boot disk are actually for. I suggest making the boot disk into a graphical interface, and adding more help and prompts. At the very least, it should list in detail what the various software in the boot disk are used for!!!

Make the boot disk you need according to your own different requirements and purposes. Recently I wrote a bat program that can fulfill the purposes of some people.
