I have downloaded and tried ACDZIP, and its compression ratio is not good!
I also tried 7ZIP, and its compression ratio is also very poor. I don't know what compression software ROY is comparing it with. If you're comparing it with WINZIP,
then there's no need, WINZIP's compression ratio is very low. 7ZIP's compression ratio is a bit better than ACDZIP's in my tests.
So I think the software with the highest compression ratio at present is PowerArchiver8.5 (when the compression format is set to CAB) ; of course, the CABARC recommended by Wengier, after testing, has the same compression ratio as PowerArchiver8.5, but its operation method is very inconvenient, since you have to use DOS commands, and you have to remember all those commands, which is not as convenient as PowerArchiver8.5. The command for CABARC to compress directories is like the following command: cabarc -m lzx:21 -r -p n nc5.cab c:\nc5\*.*
-m lzx:21 sets the compression ratio 15:21 can be selected
-r -p means directories and subdirectories
n is the create new archive option
nc5.cab is the destination filename to be compressed
c :\nc5\*.* is the source filename and path to be compressed

Hard to remember, right?!
CAB MANAGER is also quite a good program! I recommend using PowerArchiver8.5 to compress into CAB format.
That way when you're under DOS you can also use the EXTRACT command to extract under DOS!

The reason ACDzip-made archives don't have a high compression ratio is because you don't know how to set it!
Whether it's PowerArchiver8.5, ACDZIP, CABARC, or winace,
the compression ratio of the CAB archives they create should all be the same,
because the compression engine they use is actually the same one!
Microsoft has not made its CAB compression core public!
The reason the programs above can create CAB files is only because they call the core engine.
The reason why PowerArchiver8.5 has a higher compression ratio than other compression software is because
its default compression option is just set to the highest compression ratio!
Also, the reason the files you compress with ACDzip are relatively large
is because you didn't set its default compression ratio!
Though it is rather hard to find
In the pull-down menu under tools, choose the convert archive option
then select the CAB file
then click mpression settings
finally choose LZX21 and that's it!


Also, if every time you want to directly use CAB packaging,
then in the pull-down menu under tools, in the options item,
just set the default archive option to CAB files,
and another thing to note is that ACDZIP's general default options are all set for speed first,
so even with the above settings its speed is still the fastest among these programs!
That's the real real reason why I've always used ACDZIP to package CAB files!

Thanks for Shen Jie's tip. I've already chosen the maximum compression ratio when compressing with all compression software,
PowerArchiver8.5 has the highest compression ratio when compressing (same as CABARC), while ACDZIP's compression ratio, after I used Shen Jie's method (mpression settings choose LZX21, format as CAB), still produced quite a large file after compression, much worse than PowerArchiver8.5. winace when compressing to CAB at maximum compression ratio is the same as cabinet manager 2003 . Shen Jie said: "PowerArchiver8.5, ACDZIP, CABARC, and winace should all have the same compression ratio for the CAB archives they create, because the compression engine they use is actually the same one", I can't confirm that, but when everyone chooses the maximum compression ratio (format as CAB), there really are differences in the final compression ratio. Of course, I found that sometimes using a medium compression ratio first actually makes the file smaller than when using maximum compression, probably because of differences in the algorithm, and possibly also because the file types being tested are different, so different compression software calculates differently. It may also be because different software uses different algorithms for different types of formats.

Let me correct something: cabinet manager 2003 and PowerArchiver8.5 have basically the same compression ratio, and cabinet manager 2003 supports compressing subdirectories.
1 .First, set cabinet manager 2003's compression ratio to: LZX 21,Threshold=2147483647（maximum value）. This makes it the same as PowerArchiver8.5's compression ratio.
2 .As for subdirectories, it's actually very simple: just drag the files or folders to be compressed (subfolders) onto the cabinet manager 2003 window.^^

It's only that your Threshold=2147483647 option wasn't set!
The reason ACDZip's compression ratio isn't high is that it doesn't have this option,
so its compression ratio is the lowest,
but have you noticed that its speed is also the fastest among these few!
