I tried it. In the command prompt, the screen speed is fine at all. In pure DOS, after adding the cache, the frame rate of the screen is still relatively slow. My hardware configuration (P4 2.0G, ATI 7200 graphics card with TV-out, AWE64 GOLD sound card, 256 + 512M memory) shouldn't be bad, but the running screen speed is not okay... Please, landlord, help me see where the problem is? Thanks in advance!!!!!

The main difference between running in the command prompt and pure DOS now is mainly in the hardware graphics acceleration. Unfortunately, there is usually no direct hardware graphics acceleration in pure DOS at present, so it may cause a decrease in speed. It is estimated that for the time being, we can only make up for this problem by relying on a higher CPU speed. But the issue of hardware graphics acceleration is also being discussed there, and maybe it will be realized in the future.

It has been further optimized. Now after downloading, it can be run directly in the DOS window/command prompt of WIN just like in pure DOS without having to modify or remove some files first. And it supports continuous playback of RMVB files (such as PLAY *.RMVB) better.

Ah Hai: If the playback speed in full - screen mode under DOS is relatively slow, you might as well try adding the - nofs parameter after the play command to play at the original size, and then the speed should be faster.

Thanks, I'll try it. I'll report back later.

Got the result? (Note: If you downloaded it before, you can download the updated version from the top of the thread).

I tried it and feel it's much worse than GEEXBOX. The MPlayer included in GEEXBOX has better effects and compatibility than this DOS one, and it has lower requirements for the machine. Also, GEEXBOX has an interface, which is convenient to operate.

Upstairs, I'm afraid it can't be compared like this. GeeXboX is a LiveCD-style operating platform specifically designed for multimedia playback, while DOS is a full-function operating system. GeeXboX has no other uses except booting from the CD and playing multimedia files, etc., which is not the case for DOS. The two can't be compared. And what does the above-mentioned "compatibility" refer to? Does it mean the compatibility of the sound card? Since they both use MPlayer, the formats that can be played should be the same. As for the support for the sound card, it has nothing to do with it itself, but rather the problem of whether the corresponding operating system's sound card driver can be found.

I'm just considering it from the perspective of usability. It's not easy to make MPlayer under DOS play sound and play smoothly on my own computer. GeeXboX can be downloaded to a USB flash drive and then made into a boot item to be used on most computers. GeeXboX certainly can't compare with DOS. I have DOS, WINPE, GeeXboX and other systems installed on my USB flash drive. Installing GeeXboX doesn't affect the use of DOS.

Asking newdos11, I'm troubled by the thing you mentioned. I wonder how you put Geexbox on a USB drive and add a boot item. I used Geexbox a long time ago and also want to add Geexbox or other Linux systems to my own system maintenance disk. I used isoemu and loadin but haven't succeeded. I want to know how you did it?
