DOS stands for freedom, openness and progress. Let us work hard, learn from the openness and GNU spirit of FreeDOS and Linux, and together build and grow a free GNU GPL world!

I'm too inexperienced to understand. Can you explain it in more detail? Where are the initial.inf and setup.inf files? How to replace them? Can it be tested on a virtual machine? When I boot from a floppy disk and enter the character interface installation stage, it shows a SETUP error, and it restarts when I press OK!

After the blue character interface is installed, restart to DOS and replace the two original files in winnt\system32. Then restart, and you can normally enter the graphical interface installation stage.

Thanks, I'll try it again tonight! This problem has troubled me for a long time! Also, may I ask: How did you come up with this solution? It's too profound!

I downloaded winnt 3.1 advanced server, and there is a patch for processors above pII, but these two files cannot be directly used for the workstation version. Then I compared the original unpatched initial.inf and setup.inf files in advanced server with the patched ones to find out what content was modified. Then I made corresponding modifications in these two files of the winnt 3.1 workstation version.

When installing NT 3.1 advanced server, errors occur when copying MUSRMGR.IND and OEMNXPSM.INF. Although skipping them allows the installation to continue, there are continuous errors later, and even the LOG screen does not appear when starting up!

Take a look at the following webpage. It has CPU patches for all versions of WinNT 3.1/3.5, and also provides service packs for WinNT 3.1, 3.5, and 3.51.

How did you install it? Is it true that software under DOS can only be installed under DOS? I tried installing software under DOS once and it failed. Can someone explain whether that's the case?

Finally found it. Also encountered a blue screen of death during the installation of winnt31. Let's see if the patch from the person above can be used. Thank you so much

It's no longer a problem. This post has been around for three years! It was quite lively here three years ago.
It's been more than three years. Now it's more difficult to install NT 3.x on virtual machines than it was in the past two years. Not only do you need a CPU patch, but also a high-speed disk patch.

I tried it but it seems not working. I'm using VMWare 6.0, set memory to 32M, and winnt3.1 was downloaded from the forum. When entering the NT blue hardware detection screen, there's a "STOP" crash. I replaced the inf file given before but it's still like this. How to solve it?
