Are you using MS's EMM386? Other companies such as ROMDOS also have EMM386. I encountered compatibility issues with ROMDOS's EMM386, while I have never encountered any issues with MS's EMM386 so far.

I also had a crash when using MS7.1. Single-stepping found that it got stuck on the two files XMSDSK and hiram. It also crashes when loading the USB driver. It means that no matter which menu I choose now, it crashes. Also, I strongly request the moderator to cancel the restart and shutdown functions after loading failure. This function is particularly annoying. (It feels a bit like the old logic lock.)

You can first use the SYS command to transfer the system, then copy MSDOS.SYS and LOGO.SYS to C:\, then copy other files to the C:\DOS folder, and modify the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files.
