It should be possible to make a universal one, isn't there already a universal gho for flash disks?

Someone above said that the USB-HDD creation method is the same as making a hard disk boot method. I wonder whether you've actually made one before or are just talking nonsense. I tried making one with an Aigo USB-HDD and tried several methods, but none worked. Could some expert please give it a try? Many thanks.

Same as what one of the posters above said, I couldn't get it to work either!

Experts, hurry up and develop this. I don't understand the technology, so I can only shout here. One of my flash disks supports booting, but the format tool supplied by the manufacturer actually made a freedos disk. If I copy files over from windows, they all turn into garbled text as soon as it boots, and sometimes it even says folder error, (but reading the CD is normal instead, strangely enough) it's so depressing. But aside from the manufacturer's software, other boot creation software like usboot that I tried doesn't work either. I'm really looking forward to seeing more discussion here about making flash-disk boot disks.

That makes sense, I've tried it before.

The following is quoted from xdx66 at 2004-8-10 12:53:30:

Sounds good, let's all look into it. I also have a suggestion: although USB flash drives are already very common, the cost is still not low, and in the long run USB flash drives are not the main direction. I suggest trying CF cards. CF cards have a wider range of uses than USB flash drives, are more common, and are also cheaper. A few weeks ago, I saw an 8M CF card at the flea market, a Nikon one, with an asking price of 100 yuan. I said that was too expensive, 20! In the end we settled at 30. I went back and tried using the USB flash drive method to make a boot disk, but it failed! If it works, it would be more convenient and practical than a USB flash drive. Formatting it directly as a boot disk under win98 succeeded

I used MMC cards to make boot disks, and the boot succeeded. I tried two in succession: one was 64M (I forgot the brand, and sold it), the other was 256M (brand PDI). Booting 98's DOS71 succeeded in both cases. (Of course a card reader is indispensable.)
My phone is a Siemens 6688I, and with a 256M MMC card, it's great. I can even use it to help people repair computers.

Booting a system from a USB hard disk is very simple. Under 98, format a partition on the USB hard disk as a system disk, enter XP, open Administrative Tools in Control Panel, click Computer Management, find the USB hard disk in Disk Management, right-click the partition you formatted just now, and set that partition as the active partition. Now you can boot DOS from the USB hard disk. You can add whatever you want in it! (When I enter the system, it often hangs: 80G hard disk + Coshare USB2.0 hard disk enclosure)

The key is to change sectors to 63. Directly transferring the system disk does not necessarily succeed.

Looks like I got lucky, just copying command.com,io.sys,msdos.sys was enough.

dos booting is relatively simple. I went through a lot of trouble making a linux boot disk. lilo and grub were both useless. In the end I still booted with dos and used loadlin to load linux.

Can an ordinary USB flash drive be used for system booting?

You need to first figure out the FDD, HDD, and Zip mode issue, and then do it. Generally FDD compatibility is better than HDD. Maybe the HDD mode you made can't boot, but if you make it as FDD it can. By the way, here's a small tool for you to try yourself...Open attachment

The production process is very simple. You need a piece of software, WinImage. Once you download it, you'll know how to do it: make a Super Boot Disk 7.01 into an img, then write it into the USB flash drive and boot....................why isn't it moving? Just kidding!
