For DOS, use MS-DOS 7.10. It has the best compatibility and practicality. For the GUI, use the Chinese edition of MiniWin3.2.

I support it. Recently I made a bootable CD that can enter a completed win97 system already on the CD. The principle is to extract the already-compressed completed win97 into memory, then call it, requiring 70M of free memory space. Of course it can also be extracted onto the hard disk.
The CD boot supports all kinds of optical drives, and the CD comes with vc, diskgen, spfdisk, sfdisk, pqmagic, dm, readntfs, diskfix, ucdos, ndd......... which can be run through the boot menu. Under a graphical interface, disk file operations are much more comfortable, and after booting it can enter win97 safe mode. Because my web space is limited, I can’t put the CD image online. If the moderator wants it, I can mail the CD over, and we can all exchange ideas together. My CD boot uses the msdos7.10+4dos method, and the CD has a brief manual and the ideas behind how it was made. |

Also use GRUB as the boot manager. It can let you choose to boot MS-DOS 7.10, ROM-DOS 7.10, PC-DOS 7.10, or FreeDOS, or boot from floppy/CD/hard disk, etc.
