The network is working, the memory should be sufficient. There are issues with using FTP and LYNX software. The FTP used here is wattcp ftp07 downloaded from here.

It's not that your memory is insufficient, but that multiple software may have conflicts.

I also occasionally encountered the socket error -1 error when using ftp on DOS, but the most frequent one here is the timeout error.
DOS is really not suitable for surfing the Internet.
