When installing in VC, there is also an error at the end, you...

I have only tried "Digital Research - MultiUser DOS v5.10" in vpc and qemu, and it can be started. The installation seems to have no problems. I haven't tried it in vmware.

Your screenshot seems to be "Digital Research Concurrent DOS v3.01"

I have said earlier that Digital Research Concurrent DOS v3.01 only runs in qemu. The compressed package I provided includes the demo image and program of qemu.

QEMU requires what kind of environment to run, not under XP? QEMU can!
Downloaded a Chinese version to take a look, QEMU can also run POWERPC and MAC, will study it when free!

The qemu program is already included in my download package. After unpacking, you just need to execute the "Start qemu.cmd" under 2000/xp, and then you can start "Digital Research Concurrent DOS v3.01".

I have tried real/32, and it is obviously an upgraded version of Digital Research - MultiUser DOS.

This system itself seems to be called real/32, and it is rare to see the word "dos" in the system.
Personally, I feel that these several systems:
DR - MultiUser DOS
DR Concurrent DOS
real/32 dos
are no longer the traditional DOS. It is a pure protected mode system running on processors above 386 (generally, ordinary DOS can run on 8086).

They look more similar to OS/2 1.0, although I have never installed it. But I have seen screenshots and introductions of OS/2 1.0, which is also a multitasking protected mode system with a text interface. Compared with ordinary real mode DOS, these DOS and OS/2 1.0 all have an ibmdos.com of several hundred KB as the system kernel, which is much larger than the ibmdos.com of ordinary PC-DOS, and all support multitasking. Like OS/2, they use Ctrl+esc to switch processes.

"Protected mode system" and "ordinary real mode DOS", I don't understand these concepts very well. Please, experts, give me a lesson!

Real-mode and protected-mode are two different working modes of processors (usually CPUs above 386). The former is compatible with the 8086 series, and the latter can directly access large memory.

For the evolution process and classification of computer operating systems (including various DOS series), take a look here (it was drawn by me before):

Concurrent Controls Multi User DOS7.22.Gold Demo is quite easy to install, but unfortunately it only lets you play for 1 hour!

Regarding the evolution of computer operating systems...

The part about Minix/Linux in the picture....... I really can't say I agree
The core architectures of Minix and Linux are completely different
Minix is a micro kernel
while Linux is a monolithic kernel

The original goal of Linux was indeed a clone of the original Minix. It was called Linus's Minix at that time, but later it was renamed Linux for some reason. There is a clear statement above the chart that clones will be regarded as operating systems in the same category (for example, Linux/Minix both belong to the Unix category, or are written as *nix, etc.). As for the core architecture, it is a matter of specific implementation methods, but this does not affect the own affiliation, and the operation methods are also extremely similar.
