I also really like this forum. It's the only known website alliance for DOS discussions so far. I just hope the environment here can be improved, fix the forum's vulnerabilities, add its own professional server, and appear on the network in the form of an organization rather than the current form of a free group. The topics discussed are also scattered. Although everyone likes it, it seems like it's still the same content after one year, two years, etc. While the popularity rises, I hope the content will also be updated, guiding us to a brand-new DOS world. As for the technical aspects, let's set them aside for now because these need everyone's efforts. It's not realistic to rely only on a few administrators. But the network environment must be solved by the administrators themselves. When discussing technology, we should consider the lifespan of the platform. I think there is a very important relationship between using the website to increase income and prolong the lifespan of the forum.

To All:

The improvement work of the forum has officially started. The "DOS Batch & Script Technology (Batch Processing Room)" section has been formally established. At the same time, the WIN and other operating system sections have been incorporated into the technology area. Next, it is necessary to transfer and adjust the existing posts to the corresponding sections. Then the next step of work will continue.

Everyone is welcome to put forward other opinions or suggestions.

As soon as I logged in, I found that the sections had been adjusted. However, there are really too many sections now, making my eyes dizzy. The organization is very clear, but can the few active moderators take care of it?

Start with personnel matters, actively absorb some talents who are fond of and understand DOS and are willing to make positive contributions to the development of the alliance. In addition to positions such as forum moderators, it is recommended to set up skill-based positions, such as programmers who maintain forum code, administrators who maintain download space, researchers who develop DOS technology, and so on.

Re Wengier:

Very glad to see that the forum has quickly taken another step forward. No matter what the future holds, at least these footprints prove that we have explored and strived, so that we won't leave ourselves too many regrets.

The establishment of the Batch Processing Room was as expected, but directly promoting me to be a moderator is somewhat unexpected. This is indeed a position that makes me both happy and worried. After careful consideration, I think the following two problems need to be solved urgently:

1. Find several capable and responsible members as my partners in the Batch Processing Room as soon as possible. On the one hand, share the pressure, and on the other hand, supervise each other;

2. Temporarily grant the moderator of the Batch Processing Room the management power over other technical section forums, so as to facilitate the transfer and organization of batch processing topics from each forum, with a limit of ten days;

3. Temporarily close the posting and replying rights of ordinary users in the forum, and open them again after the organizing period is over;

In addition, there is a long-term suggestion, grant the moderators of each technical section forum the management power over the Teaching Room and the Q&A Room, so as to facilitate the organization of the topics in these two forums into the forums they manage.

All are very good suggestions. Wengier should re - arrange the moderators. Those who have evaporated for a long time...

I have been a bit busy recently. I haven't posted much. I just became a moderator at Tornado. Friends who are interested in joining Tornado can contact me. Of course, one must have certain strength to be approved. It's not up to me to decide.

The candidates proposed by willsort are indeed good, and there are no objections; invitations have been sent.

For the existing batch processing forum moderators, temporary global post management permissions have been granted to facilitate the transfer and organization of topics, and they will be restored to the original state after one week.

As for closing the posting and replying rights of ordinary users in the sections, I think it may not be necessary. During the adjustment period, appropriate posting and replying are still okay, so as to avoid users thinking that the new section has become a decoration because they can't post and losing the enthusiasm to post in the new section.

The re - arrangement of moderators mentioned by llm is also necessary, and some actions will be taken in the near future.

In addition, LLM mentioned the problem that there are too many sections now and it's a bit dazzling. Is it necessary to adjust the sections and areas, or separate the WIN and other operating system sections from the DOS technology area again?

Now the sections are divided finely, and the organization is very clear. But the problem is that the section moderators are losing seriously, and it's not easy to manage with such fine divisions. Moreover, the people who post often post randomly, and this can't be entirely blamed on the posters. Putting aside the current section divisions, actually the most basic ones should be: 1. Teaching & Answers (now the teaching room is also full of asking posts, losing its original meaning). 2. Localization & Multimedia & Boot Disks (a bit far-fetched, think about it again. Multimedia doesn't need to be opened separately either). 3. Batch Processing & Development (I don't object to separating it alone, because it's relatively popular and practical, and has commonalities with development, also a kind of simple language). 4. Downloads & Requesting Files (there's nothing much to say about this, it's not appropriate to merge with others). 5. Other Operating Systems Section. Anyway, 9 sections are too many now.

In addition, there are popular emulators/virtual machines, and I don't know where to place them appropriately.
For USB/NTFS driver categories, fortunately, they weren't separated as a single category...
"Literature, Entertainment & Work Sharing" and "Posting Pictures, Chit-chat & Chatting Area" should also be merged, collectively referred to as the water area.
The "Network Diary (Blog)" should simply be canceled.
The essence area should play a greater role, but I haven't thought about how to do it yet.
If you think the other operating systems area doesn't conform to the purpose of the DOS forum, it might as well be incorporated into Teaching & Q&A.
I personally like strict management and absolutely support the idea of subdividing user levels to solve the serious problem of new users posting randomly.

Let's just say a little bit at a time, heh. Recently I've witnessed and participated in some forum reform work. The fact that we have 50,000 members here is really alarming. I think there are less than 1,000 active members. Let's cut, of course this depends on Wengier's thoughts. Anyway, I think the period of striving for user registrations is over. Now it's a trend to cut people generally.

Support LLM's specific opinions on merging sections and cutting people! I think this category is very good, relatively concise, and easy to gather popularity.
---
Put emulators and virtual machines in the boot disk section too...

As for cutting people... mainly because there are too many people asking for help. Everyone only needs to register a username for one post, and then they don't need to anymore.
---

PS: As for commercialization... commercialization... I'm afraid there's no market. Also, what is "Tornado"?

Formally establish the DOS Batch Processing & Script Technology (Batch Processing Room) section

When will the command line section be established? For example, cmd, cmdcons, BlueCon, WinPE 1.0?

We are currently discussing this issue. The specific establishment time is estimated to be in the next two days. Please refer to this thread:

Wengier added on April 30: Now this section has been officially established!

There is also a question that I've always wanted to bring up:
It is suggested to change the link opened by clicking the icon of each section on the homepage to opening in a new window, while keeping the text link opening in the current window. Just like the way posts are opened in the post list of each section. It can also be considered whether to remove the default Discuz! icon of each section on the homepage and replace the original position with crystal icons.
