I'm having a meal. If someone has both 9X and MS-DOS 7.1 installed, the automatic boot will be either 9X or DOS, and you can only choose one. I always boot to DOS, and I have to type a command to enter Windows 98, and the boot screen has been changed to the DOS screen! Can this be solved?

Win9x (that is, Win4.x) is originally a GUI program under DOS. It cannot start without DOS. Therefore, start DOS first and then enter commands to enter Win4.x if needed. This is actually very normal, just like entering WIN command under DOS to enter Win3.x, especially when there are both Win3.x GUI and Win4.x GUI under DOS.

Wouldntegrating directly under 9X would not be better? There is an option in 9X to restart to MS-DOS state. Even if 7.1 is installed, it still boots to the built-in DOS! In addition, I hope you can provide Chinese installation information so that I can continue to modify it. My English is not good, and I lose motivation halfway through the localization. Kingsoft Ciba is really difficult to use. If you can provide Chinese installation information, I can write an installation package for installing DOS under WINDOWS, breaking the fallacy that DOS cannot be installed after installing WINDOWS!

It should be integrating WIN3.x/4.0 GUI into DOS, not the other way around. There are already Win3.x/Win98 GUI for MS-DOS 7.1 plugins that can integrate Win3.x and Win98 GUI into DOS for installation. After all, DOS is the overall console and operating system, and the others are just programs on top, not to overshadow it. Also, multiple Win3.x/9x can be started on a DOS 7.1 (for example, Win3.2 and Win95 installed on drive C, Win98 on drive D, Win98SE on drive E). I once wrote a program that automatically finds all Win3.x/9x paths on the hard drive and lets the user choose to boot directly from them.
It has long been proven that you can install DOS after installing WINDOWS. Also, I don't have Chinese installation information here. The statement "9X has an option to restart to MS-DOS state, and even after installing 7.1, it still boots to the built-in DOS" is actually not entirely correct. The "Restart to MS-DOS mode" option in the Win9x shutdown menu is actually the OS Shell mode, which is the same principle as the "OS Shell" mode in Turbo C 2.0, etc. (Its biggest feature is that the program remains in memory, just temporarily frozen, and you can return to the program with the EXIT command), which is different from the DOS window and the real pure DOS. But after installing DOS 7.1, the kernel it uses is still the installed DOS 7.1 kernel. |

Can you put yourself in others' shoes when speaking? From your perspective, it's one answer, but from our users' perspective, they don't care whether 98 or DOS is the kernel. They just hope to use the method of entering DOS in 98 to enter MS-DOS 7.1 instead of the DOS that comes with 98. Whether it's the shutdown menu or the F8 startup menu, it's just a means. Moreover, what I mean by installing DOS is to install DOS using an installation program under the WINDOWS platform and provide an uninstall program. That is, install DOS 7.1 as a software of WINDOWS on the hard drive, which is convenient for novices to learn DOS. And when they don't need DOS anymore, they can uninstall it. How convenient that is!
