Everyone, please confirm again. Is it a new problem caused by pre5? Confirm that pre4 is okay?

The changes from pre4 to pre5 are not many. The main changes can only be reflected when running grub.exe from Windows 98. There are only minor changes otherwise. If there is a problem with pre5, generally pre4 should also have a problem.

If convenient, please also test in a virtual machine to help determine the root cause of the problem (hardware cause or software cause).

The latest version of the binary file has been released. You can directly download grldr and grub.exe from http://grub4dos.jot.com/ for testing. The binary files are all for temporary testing, and there are only English versions, no Chinese versions.

It is confirmed that there are indeed problems with pre5. I have tried many times repeatedly, and most of the effects are the same, "slow running programs under DOS".

I used UltraCompare to compare pre5 and pre4 in binary, and indeed did not find much difference, but the problem does exist. Currently, only me and qwe1234567 have this situation. We also need to see if other people have this situation.

In addition, my configuration is VIA P4X266 256MB, ntldr loads and starts GRLDR. I don't like using virtual machines :)

Thanks to several people, the problem should have been solved. Everyone can test it.

In pre5, after transferring sectors from extended memory using int13/ah=87, the action of enabling A20 was added. The operation of A20 is very slow on some machines and there is a possibility of system freeze, which is the situation you encountered.

Now the action of enabling A20 has been removed, and it should be fine.

The ID with a Chinese name on this forum before can no longer enter, so I have to change to an English tinybit. This is still the original Budian. Thank you all.

As long as I can come to the forum, I don't expect points. This forum is often inaccessible, which is really frustrating. Looking at the number of online users, it seems not many, so I can only suspect that the website's service provider has limited the bandwidth. Actually, points aren't a big deal; it's worse that those private messages can't be accessed either.

Don't wait for the Chinese version. There isn't much change from pre4 to pre5, so just use pre4. Now the release frequency has decreased, and each time, changes are accumulated to a certain extent before release. Unless there's a serious bug, it's released in advance. Generally speaking, there should be at least one release every month on average.
