I think an MS-DOS 7.1 boot disk is much more practical than a MiniWin boot disk, and it boots much faster too

I once made a smallest possible win32.. after compression it could fit on one floppy disk..
I remember I even kept the file list..
If needed.. I can go look for it.. it should probably still be around...

Following my idea: boot with DOS7.1 (because hard disks nowadays are all FAT32) and include CD-ROM boot support, create a 10M-30M virtual disk, copy all files of WIN3.2 from the PWIN32 folder on the CD-ROM to the virtual disk, then execute WIN.COM in the virtual disk. With moderator Wengier's help, it has already succeeded. It has been burned to CD-R and tested usable. It is also used as one boot branch option in my multifunction Chinese menu boot CD.
By the way, if I'm going to do it, I'll make a full-function one, breaking through the floppy disk capacity limit. I don't want to make a function-limited floppy-disk PWIN32 boot disk (even if only the fonts are limited).

Using roughly the same method as yours, I also made a boot disk, except I copied all the files of win98 (mini98) into the virtual disk!!
But there are still many problems. For example, I set the virtual disk to 64M (using xmsdsk), and as a result it doesn't support long filenames.
Does any expert have a solution to this problem???

The virtual disk created by XMSDSK does support long filenames! Just use DOSLFN.

I don't know why either, I'm not familiar with dos, sigh...... I used xmsdsk 64000 /y to create the virtual disk, that's not wrong, right? It doesn't say you must add some parameter for it to support long filenames, does it??
But I did try the one that comes with ms..., when creating a virtual disk smaller than 4M it supports long filenames. For example, if I create a new folder under windows, it shows as "New Folder", but when creating a virtual disk larger than 4M, it shows as "FLDR". I don't know why either, can an expert explain it...............

Since there is the higher version 3.11, why use the lower version? Version 3.2 is just version 3.1 with Chinese added and the version number changed.
