This time I switched to using PKUNZIP for extraction, because EXTRACT sometimes gives an "Out of Memory" error (and I do have 256MB of RAM!).

PKUNZIP is much easier to use than EXTRACT, and it also supports long filenames.

It seems RAR 3.11 is a bit stronger than CAB, even if only by a little.

Sometimes AIN seems to have a slightly higher compression ratio than RAR, and it's itself very small, only a little over 20k.

CABARC can create/modify/extract CAB archives, but unfortunately it's also 50K after compression, and it can only run in a DOS window under Win.

I tried Roy's PC-DOS 7.1 boot disk, but I want to point out that if you want to load PC-DOS's COMMAND.COM into UMB memory, you shouldn't use the SHELL=LOADHI.COM COMMAND.COM method, but should instead use the /H parameter built into PC-DOS 7.10's COMMAND.COM. Also, PC-DOS's COMMAND.COM does not support long filenames, which is a great pity.
