GBK Encoding (Chinese Internal Code Specification)

GBK encoding is a new national standard for Chinese encoding expansion equivalent to UCS formulated in mainland China. The GBK working group completed the GBK specification in December of the same year after October 1995. This encoding standard is compatible with GB2312, contains 21,003 Chinese characters, 883 symbols, and provides 1,894 code positions for creating characters, integrating simplified and traditional Chinese characters in one library.

The font surface encoding of the Windows 95/98 Simplified Chinese version uses GBK, and is connected to the underlying font library through a one-to-one code table between GBK and UCS.

Chinese name: Chinese Character Internal Code Extension Specification Version 1.0
Double-byte encoding, an extension of GB2312-80, compatible with GB2312-80 in code positions
Range: 8140~FEFE (excluding xx7F) with a total of 23,940 code positions

Remove xx7F? Don't understand

The empty places are blank user-definable code positions.
