Boss Wengier, I heard that the MS-DOS 710 you made yourself can be directly installed on a system with XP, and it supports something or other. I tried it last night (pretty bold of me!), and I found a few problems:
1. After the installation is complete, a boot menu appears. When I select "MS-DOS 710", the computer doesn't boot. Then, after entering XP, I find that 5 necessary boot files (IO.SYS, MSDOS.SYS, COMMAND.COM, AUTOEXEC.BAT, CONFIG.SYS) haven't been successfully copied to the root directory of drive C. These 5 files are originally protected, and your installation program didn't handle this well.
2. Maybe because the installation wasn't complete, the temporary files created didn't delete automatically.
3. There are two problems with the MSDOS.SYS file in your MSDOS710 on my computer. First, it automatically loads IFSHLP.SYS, but the default path is in the current directory. However, when booting, the current directory is the root directory, so this file needs to be copied to the root directory to load it automatically. Second, after the boot is complete, it checks for drive A every time I execute a DOS command. Then I replaced the original MSDOS.SYS file with the one from the WIN98 boot disk, and everything went smoothly.
Maybe these problems don't occur on other computers, but I hope the boss can make it more perfect. I'm also a loyal defender of DOS, thanks in advance.

I suspect whether you used an old version or didn't use the "MS-DOS 7.10 Installation Program" correctly? Because, especially the second point that after startup is complete, every time you execute a DOS command, it has to detect drive A, which I find extremely incredible. Can such a thing really happen? Also, those 7 files (not 5, because IFSHLP.SYS and LOGO.SYS should also be automatically copied to C:\) – in normal circumstances, it should first cancel all attributes, then perform the copy, and finally restore the attributes. How could it fail to copy them successfully?
By the way, I suddenly thought, did you later directly copy MSDOS.SYS from the ZIP package or drive A to C:\ because the startup failed? That certainly won't work because the installation program will automatically modify the MSDOS.SYS file during the process, so after installation, it's not exactly the original one.
