Why is it that the MS-DOS 7.1 boot disk downloaded from this site cannot display the long filenames on the CD, but can still operate on them?
After the WinME boot disk loads DOSLFN, the long filenames on the CD still cannot be displayed and cannot be operated on either.
There is no problem on the hard disk. For example, pwin98oem2 becomes pwin98oe on the CD, and on the ME disk, cd pwin98oe cannot enter it.
Why is this?

I downloaded the link you gave. The long-name files on the CD cannot be read, for example pwin98oem2－－pwin98oe, and they cannot be operated on.

wxyl: That link was for MLD to use, not for you to download. To truly support long filenames on CDs under DOS, please first use MKLINK to create long filename entries, and then use DOSLFN.

Your 71b and 71bd both support operating on long filenames on CDs, even though they cannot all be displayed.
I wonder whether loading MKLINK and DOSLFN on the ME boot disk would work?

Last time we discussed the DOS boot disk that comes with WinME. The conclusion was that its compatibility is very poor and it should be completely retired, so it is recommended to use the more compatible MS-DOS 7.10 boot disk instead.

Although 7.1bd and 7.1bk are both 7.1 boot disks, their configurations, uses, and so on are not the same. They were designed only to suit the needs of different users.
