Originally wanted to upload, but this forum has a limit on the size of attachments, and splitting into volumes is too troublesome.
(Moderators can put it on your website for download)

This is a boot disk I made myself. It can boot the M$CLIENT network and use commands like net view, net use to access shared resources on the local area network.
The floppy disk image file can be directly used in the VmWare virtual machine, and the network card of VmWare is driven under DOS!!
XMSDSK memory virtual disk and PKZIP compression tools are used.

Everyone, if you think it's good, please reply to support it!
Please give your advice on the deficiencies.

This boot disk supports the following four types of network cards:
RTL8139 ——Everyone knows this network card
AMD PCnet ——VmWare virtual machine simulates this type of network card
Intel PRO/100B ——Many servers and laptops integrate this type of network card
SiS 900/9016 ——Network card integrated by SiS motherboards

Use these two protocols:
Microsoft TCP/IP (uses DHCP to automatically obtain IP)
Microsoft NetBEUI

Instructions for use:
After booting, the first dialog box selects the network card type (press the ESC key to return to the DOS prompt),
The second dialog box selects whether to start the network (later you can execute STARTNET.BAT in the N:\NET directory to start the network).

Configuration instructions:
If you want to configure network parameters (such as IP, workgroup name, etc.), please select not to start the network in the second dialog box. Then enter the NET directory of the N drive (memory virtual disk) to execute SETUP for configuration.
Note: Because it is a memory virtual disk, do not restart after changing the configuration, otherwise the changes will be invalid. You should press F3 to exit when the SETUP program prompts to insert the boot disk for the second time (do not rewrite the AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files).
If you only want to temporarily change the configuration, execute STARTNET.BAT in the N:\NET directory to start the network. If you want to permanently change the configuration, copy the SYSTEM.INI and PROTOCOL.INI files in the N:\NET directory to the corresponding subdirectory under A:\NET corresponding to the network card type.

Just now saw and tried it, it is indeed worthy of encouragement! But it has a biggest problem which is compatibility, because there are only 4 choices for the network card in this boot disk, but after all, the types of network cards now are far more than these. For example, the network card used on my computer (referring to the real mode, while it is available under VMWare) is not provided with corresponding driver programs in this boot disk. This is also the main reason why I have not made a universal network boot disk. And if I collect various network card driver programs everywhere, it is not only quite troublesome, but also the floppy disk space is tight. Do you have any good solutions?

There are indeed many types of network cards, and it's almost impossible to make a universal network boot disk (unless someone has made a universal network driver). For other network cards, you can only execute the SETUP program to add the network card driver (using NDIS2 driver). Remember to save the configuration results (two INI files and one DOS file) back to drive A. Drive N is just a memory virtual disk. For more details, just look at AUTOEXEC.BAT by yourself.

By the way, I forgot to mention that the PACKET directory on drive A also has the PACKET drivers for these four types of network cards.

There is also a regret that M$CLIENT does not support long file names. All the resources on the network are in 8.3 format. I wonder if there is a way to solve this?

The best way to solve the long filename problem is to rely on MS to launch a new version of MSCLIENT if possible. Another problem is that MSCLIENT has some issues when reading many FAT32 partitions..

There are many network card drivers under DOS in Ghost 8.0 (you can choose which network card driver to use when making a bootable disk). I think it can be burned onto a small CD and taken along, which is also good.

I'll go try compressing it with Uharc + Ramdisk
Somehow somewhere I've got to choose.
No matter if it is win or lose.

wengier, I wonder if you can collect as many network card drivers as possible and make a 2.88M one. It can be placed on a CD.

I use the NET VIEW command to view other 2000 98 can't see, can only map shared files ah.
Can we change this NET to be as powerful as the function in 2000? Can it be improved?
Under DOS, the floppy disk connects to the local area network relying on this NET command. Also, how to set the workgroup with the NETBUEI protocol? I can't find the place to set it.
Thanks~~~~~~~
