My floppy drive isn't very good
writing to it over and over, reading from it over and over
I can't stand it
I have a USB flash drive
Can I make it become A: when booting?

Your motherboard needs to support USB booting, then it will work. First use the SYS command to transfer the system files to the USB flash drive, then COPY the boot disk files from here to the USB flash drive.

The following is a quote from ZCCSD at 2003-8-18 11:45:52:

The three points you mentioned
I don't understand any of them at all!!

Explain it more clearly! Issue 15 of Computer Enthusiast talked about how to turn a USB flash drive into drive A:
I still can't understand it

You need at least an 845D or newer motherboard to support USB flash drive booting, or you can try upgrading the BIOS yourself, maybe it will help.

If you're going to flash the BIOS, then you'd better use a floppy.

As long as the BIOS supports it, it's fine. My ASUS kt133a can do it too.

Then what if my USB flash drive itself isn't bootable?

USB flash drives are definitely supported, the problem is you have to format it into the form of an A: drive, use the umsd tool to format it into FDD format. (If formatting under xp, please create the directory XP_Bootable under C Then go online and download a boot disk IMG, and use winimage to extract it to the USB flash drive (if you have a boot disk you can also copy it in from a floppy, but command.com and io.sys have to be copied first) ****haha ha, when you boot from it, it's a 128Mb floppy disk, haha)

Can a non-bootable USB flash drive work too? I haven't tried it, and where can I download umsd tool?
