I've had the idea of making WinPE for quite a long time, and I've also tried the methods for making WinPE many times, but the result has still been failure without exception...
I've tried more than ten WinXP discs, including the original WinXP ISO that I had just finished downloading after a whole day yesterday, namely the original ISO file of 530,186,240 bytes that sensen recommended, but in the end the number of files copied was still different, 1356 and 1361 respectively...
The operating systems I tried were WinXP Professional and Win2000 Advanced Server, and my machine specs are an 845PE motherboard, Celeron 2.0G, 512MB Kingston DDR, WD80G hard drive, and GeForeMX440 graphics card.
I'd like to ask those friends who have successfully made WinPE, just how exactly is PE made?

All the files on my winxp have a modified time of 2001-9-5-20:00. What time do yours have?

I checked, and the time on this copy of XP and the modified times of all its files are the same as yours...

Just use mkimg in opetools. I succeed every single time!? There are 3 files that have to be copied manually by yourself; it can handle all the rest. Post a screenshot of the root directory and maybe I can help you see where the error is.

Making it with winxp's Preinstallation Kit is more or less the same as HLK94's method, except that it has two files that need to be copied manually, which I mentioned last time. winxp professional original installation serial number:ccc64-69q48-y3kww-8v9gv-tvkrm.

Just download a winpe, no need to go through the trouble of reinstalling the system, and besides, those files are taken from the CD; as long as your system has an NT kernel it's fine. How about I send you my opktools, do you want it?

Don't talk about dying and all that, HK94's method is a good one. Now let me go over the details from the beginning again; there's no way it won't work.

1. Prepare one XP (2600) Professional edition first, without SP1. It has to be plain XP. The contents should be as follows: a complete I386 (521,215,836 bytes), BOOTFONT.BIN, WIN51, WIN51IP, SETUP.EXE, README.HTM.

2. Put all of the above into a newly created folder, name it "XP", and put it anywhere on a hard drive, for example C:\XP

3. Put the PE creation tool on the same drive too, name it "PE", for example C:\PE　　(there are many kinds of PE creation tools)

4. Run the CMD inside PE, as follows:
　　C:\PE\MKIMG.CMD C:\XP C:\WINPE (Note: the directory must be WINPE)
You can also generate an ISO directly
　　C:\PE\MKIMG.CMD C:\XP C:\WINPE.ISO

If that's the case, I really don't know what the reason is. It definitely has nothing to do with the system on your machine. What are you using for testing? VPC? Or did you burn it to a disc? If you're testing with VPC, could it be that you don't have enough memory? Also check whether the last line of CONFIG.INF is this: Language=0x0804
Honestly, making this work is harder than making it not work.

I downloaded the original win pe directly from the Internet! Personally I feel it's not very useful! ms stuff is all chicken ribs!!!!!
Maybe my machine specs are bad! Anyway, just booting pe takes 5 minutes! It made me so exhausted! Depressing ing!!
