DOS is a 16-bit system, while WINDOWS XP is a pure 32-bit system. It does not use DOS mode. It starts in BIOS mode, just like the relationship between a computer and DOS. It goes directly into GUI mode.

WinXP is actually a GUI built on top of an improved OS/2 kernel..

Sigh.... no matter how you put it, whatever kind of OS it is, it still basically breaks down into three modules: the BIOS module, the Kernel module, and the Shell module....
DOS's Kernel is text-interface based, while XP's Kernel module is GUI.....

Wrong. XP's Kernel is actually text-interface based too, and then the GUI runs on top of it. It's just that the command-line text interface was hidden by MS long ago, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

You can say it isn't, but it doesn't start from BIOS. If you want to say it does, I have a way too, like this: under the XP/2000 command prompt, type COMMAND (when it's a small window), then press alt+enter, and that's a DOS mode. It should be a DOS interrupt layer or DOS emulator. Are you guys Microsoft programmers or something? You know without looking at the source code? That's a bit too exaggerated, isn't it?

ntldr is equivalent to io.sys
cmd.exe is equivalent to command.com

As you can see, Win2000's hard disk check runs CHKDSK under DOS32
And that recovery program too (on the Win2000 CD)
All of this can show that Win2000 = DOS32+NTGUI
Somehow somewhere I've got to choose.
No matter if it is win or lose.

Exactly the same conclusion Roy and I came to! WinNT/2K/XP came from the foundation of OS/2, and OS/2 is actually a kind of DOS32 with the kernel rewritten.

winxp is first started by BIOS loading ntldr.com, which is equivalent to starting a miniature DOS, then it reads the BOOT.INI information, and then starts WINXP

Worthy of being a moderator, it's exactly the same as what I was thinking: MS's NT series is just 32-bit DOS!!

Have you ever used the "Microsoft Windows 2000 CMD" /cmdcons boot method??
That is, the "pure console" mode of winxp??

Also, "Win2000's hard disk check also runs CHKDSK under DOS32"
winnt has a lot of roots in dos and os/2! NT itself means "new technology"—that is, new technology developed from dos and os/2!

CMD.exe is the dos emulator in Nt.

Actually there's not much point in discussing this. Anyway, NT and DOS are not quite the same kind of technology, but since they're both Microsoft's technology, of course there are many inherited parts. The relationship between Microsoft's graphical interface and its kernel is much tighter than the relationship between Linux and X-windows; after all, they're "bundled."

An OS is actually
hardware---->interface------>interface------>。。。。。。。。。。----->interface------->interface
A text interface, a graphical interface, aren't they all the same

Embarrassing to say, I'm not that advanced, but does anyone know whether 2000's CMD can be used by itself, I mean use this SHELL to start the computer independently of 2000 (not Safe Mode)

Wrong, starting from ME it had already broken away from the DOS 'MODE boot method.
