I just spent some time and finally made a new MS-DOS 7.10 CD installation edition. It uses a 2.88MB CD boot image, but compared with last time, the role of the plug-ins has been greatly strengthened. By using the plug-in auto-search feature on the CD, as well as techniques such as nested plug-in invocation, after installing with this MS-DOS 7.10 installation CD it will automatically prompt with dialog boxes asking whether to install various plug-ins, as simple as installing drivers in Win2K/XP. The plug-ins currently included for automatic installation prompts are:

1: Multimedia plug-in! The plug-in will automatically prompt to install DOS multimedia programs such as QuickView 2.46, MPXPLAY, and CDP. They can be used to play various music/image/multimedia formats such as WAV, MIDI, MP3, OGG, MPG, MOV, AVI, VCD, CD audio, BMP, JPG, GIF, etc. After MS-DOS 7.10 is installed, you can run them directly under DOS by entering the commands QV, MPXPLAY, and CDP.

The following sound cards are theoretically supported at present:

Sound Blaster ISA
Sound Blaster PCI
Sound Blaster Live!
C-Media AC97
VIA AC97
ESS688/1688

When the plug-in runs, it will let the user choose a suitable driver to install. However, some of the drivers above have not yet been tested. If everyone needs support for more sound cards, please let me know, thanks!

2: Chinese character support system plug-in! The user can choose to install one of three Chinese character support systems: TW 3.2, CCDOS97, and PDOS95, and can choose whether to run it automatically each time DOS starts.

3: File manager plug-in! The user can choose to install two very good file managers (both support long filenames): Volkov Commander 4.99 and Graphics Vision File Manager, and can choose whether to run them automatically each time DOS starts.

More functions can be added later, such as networking functions, more GUI/multitasking functions, and so on, to make it into a truly fully functional super DOS platform! I hope everyone can offer suggestions or opinions, thanks!

Below I am uploading the ISO image of this CD (7MB). Since this is a demo edition, I did not use DiskEmu and the like to make it multi-boot, but single-boot instead:

Just now I changed it to a multi-boot CD using DiskEmu, and changed the previous 2.88MB floppy image into a 720KB image! (Because the latest version of the MS-DOS 7.10 installer, with enhanced support for CD booting, is being used, both ZIP packages have now been moved into the DOS71 directory on the CD instead of into the floppy image.) Also, some BUGs in the previously made plug-ins should now have been completely fixed. The download address is unchanged:

Does the installation edition install onto the hard disk? If the first partition is not FAT32 but NTFS, can it be installed?
After installation, does booting go directly into DOS?

Does the CD installation edition run programs directly from the CD, or is it installed to the hard disk and then booted through an image? If it were made into discs, couldn't all of us buy one? As long as there is a detailed manual, wouldn't fully Chinese-localized DOS commands be even better?

There is no Primary FAT File System on your hard drives...

I tested it on VMWare, using automatic partitioning and formatting.

The answers to the first and third questions are Yes, while the answer to the second question is No. You must first convert the first partition to FAT12/16/32 before DOS can be installed.

Can't it partition automatically? I did my experiment with an unpartitioned hard disk.

And there isn't even FDISK.EXE in the boot disk...

Also... there is a problem with that PDOS. Once you get into it, you can't get out. Maybe it's a PBIOS problem. However, I remember some command, seems to be
XLOAD pbios.exe
then XLOAD pbios.exe /x lets you exit (looked for ages and still couldn't find it)
