Today I went over to DOS Home for a look around. Among our China DOS sites, our two forums should be the most influential. I also made a comparison in passing, and the conclusion of the survey is:
YEAH!! I can happily tell everyone that we can deservedly be called the biggest DOS site in China, and can truly be called the China DOS Union.
Back in November last year I was still worried sick about our forum's popularity; this was the appeal post from that time:
http://www2.zzu.edu.cn/ie/newdos/dispbbs.asp?boardID=8&ID=292
At that time our popularity was far behind DOS Home, but when I went there again today, I found that everything had completely reversed. Here are the stats for the two sites counted at 0:30 early this morning:
DOS Home:
The forum has 9985 registered members in total, total topics: 3075, total posts: 15411
Posts made today on the forum: 1, posts yesterday: 75, highest daily posts: 211
There are currently 17 people online on the forum, including 5 registered members and 12 guests
China DOS Union:
The forum has 2519 registered members in total, total topics: 2877, total posts: 17867
Posts made today on the forum: 5, posts yesterday: 246, highest daily posts: 688
There are currently 26 people online on the forum, including 8 registered members and 18 guests
Because it was early morning, yesterday's posts should be used as the standard. From the above data we can see: our daily posting volume is almost higher than their daily posting record. By early morning we still had 26 people online, and the number of posts was still growing. Although DOS Home also had 17 people online, who knows what those 17 people were doing? For a full half hour, its "posts today" was still 1. Could it be that they were all just reading, with no questions at all?
As for registered members, they do have more than us, but that has to do with our registration requirements being different in the early period. Back then we did not require registration in order to post. From that angle, who knows how many of DOS Home's 9985 still ever go back and take a look, while our 2519 should mostly be die-hard members.
So:
Ahem!
Shouldn't everyone celebrate the achievements earned through the efforts of all our moderators and members?
I think the reason we have been able to achieve so much in the past half year or more should be the following points (again with the points, and it's already 1 a.m.):
1. The persistence of each moderator. It hasn't been easy, guys, especially WENGIER's perseverance. Among all the moderators, more or less everyone had one thing or another and couldn't sit in the forum every day, but WENGIER alone kept fighting every day. Luckily more members joined in, and the outstanding ones became our new moderators. They are just as full of enthusiasm for new DOS. This is the fundamental reason for the excellent achievements we have today.
2. Technical innovation. Everyone has grasped new DOS very well, and this is also the main reason we surpassed DOS Home. No matter how much DOS Home fiddles around, it's still just some old stuff, while almost every one of our moderators has a work of his own. This shows that technically we are stronger than them, and newer than them. Only new things can stir up everyone's enthusiasm; only new things can arouse everyone's interest. I believe everyone will feel gratified by having achievements of their own. This is the spiritual driving force behind liking new DOS.
3. The power of the group. It should be said that everyone's strength is the greatest of all. Even if each person contributes just a little, or introduces one new thing, when gathered together it becomes no small achievement. It is precisely because every moderator and member selflessly contributes the things they know that everyone, and the technology itself, can progress.
Of course there are also many places where we haven't done well enough, so I won't say more here. Otherwise...
