DOS is very unpopular in China. To let DOS play the role it should, we must expand DOS's influence as much as possible and create more new blood.
Considering that quite a few netizens visiting DOS websites are beginners, could we consider setting up a new DOS learning and beginner section especially for them, specifically introducing basic DOS concepts, knowledge such as representative applications of various kinds of software, and helping them solve some common problems? Because articles posted on the forum can make better use of the forum's interactivity than putting them on web pages, and these kinds of articles are not highly technical, have no length limit, and are relatively easy to write, so they can bring more people’s enthusiasm into play.

Sure, we can also consider making it into a unified “DOS Union” website. Besides “New DOS,” it would also have many separate sections such as “DOS for Beginners” and the “old DOS software” mentioned by yiyesong.

I think DOS software doesn’t really need to be divided into new and old, but setting up a beginners’ corner to help beginners solve problems and quickly improve their level would be very useful. Only by gaining a sense of achievement can the DOS community develop and grow rapidly.

Popularization and understanding come first, and only then development. This is just like our country: if the problem of food and clothing is not solved, there is no way to talk about a moderately prosperous society or modernization. I actually think it would be better to set up DOS Software Download, New DOS World, DOS Basic Knowledge, DOS Software Development, and DOS E-books. DOS Software Download would gather all new and old DOS software; New DOS World would put up usage tips and articles for new DOS software, and indicate the download location of each software tool; DOS Basic Knowledge would introduce DOS basics and how to use classic DOS tools; DOS Software Development would put up software developed by the DOS Union and netizens themselves, as well as some development experiences; e-books would of course be DOS tutorials.

I’ll also try writing some DOS beginner articles. It would probably be better to divide up the work. Shall we discuss it in detail when the moderators have a meeting?

Great, but it would be best to think about a rough plan in advance, so the meeting can proceed more conveniently; otherwise it might turn into a meeting with no clear direction.

There are already enough introductory DOS teaching materials. Is there any need to compile more? Just paste them, right?
我完全同意设想建立DOS组织“DOS联盟” ,也就是说和Wengier、以及“起步”站长莫老师等DOS战友一起来建立这个“DOS联盟”,以发展我国自主OS(操作系统)的高度去完成我们共同的愿望。

That’s fine;
everyone can post some technical articles about DOS there from time to time.

The following is quoted from 党委书记's post on 2002-12-15 3:24:51:

Second-hand stuff is plentiful and cheap; bookstores and book-buying centers also have unsold books discounted for sale

A simple question: say I’ve read some basic DOS tutorials and want to put them into practice, such as typing some common commands myself to increase proficiency, but I don’t dare experiment on my own computer. Is there a DOS emulator program available for beginners to practice with?
