Do you all think so?

Not to mention that the vast majority of programming language books stay at the grammar level;

There are also too few introductions to DOS;
What is most lacking are methods of DOS function calls;
DOS mechanism;
Tutorials on protected mode;
Interrupts;
Combination of C and assembly, etc.

We all can only pick up some fragmented knowledge to satisfy our hunger, isn't that right?

Which expert can organize those fragmented things? Publishing a book is also okay.

Little has been said about the profound aspects, while a whole lot of superficial stuff is out there

The situation is different now. DOS programming materials were easy to find from 1993 to 1996. I still have a little, and you can download from my website.

Now people like to use Windows and like to play with the computer with only one finger. But those who write programs know that GUI is very easy to make programmers lose sight of something else and get lost. Windows has trained a large number of people for MS who only know how to pile up blocks with the materials given by MS. These people will not become MS's opponents.

从95年开始用DOS3.2,96年在Windows3.1里认识了鼠标,97年开始用Win95,98年装过NetWare,99年迷过Linux,现在用WinXP、WinME和DOS7.1。一回首,从盲到忙,从忙到茫。

I once had a manual about what the thread starter mentioned regarding DOS. It was bought by me for 88 yuan back then. Thinking about it, it really helped me a lot.

I have it, as long as you are a QBasic programming enthusiast, you can come to me to get it!

QB can embed machine code!
It can also call a lib written in assembly language
And can be compiled into a separate EXE file for publication!
Those doing development with QB can go to the Programming Enthusiasts Forum to see my detailed tutorials, with original code examples! There are a large number of QB experts in the QB group on QQ! Chatting with them has also gained a lot!

QB is actually not bad, but it is generally not valued. No matter how well a QB program is written, others think you are an amateur; however, if you write a -- even a Hello World! program -- in C, others think you are awesome! Right?!

Not necessarily.

Both QB and C. To make more things, what matters more is to be familiar with software engineering, operating systems, and other hardware and software knowledge. The details of the language and functions can be looked up in materials.

In terms of functionality, Basic is indeed not as good as C/C++, after all, the latter is closer to the bottom layer, has more available resources, and is convenient to call with assembly code.

What TurboY said is right. Times are different, and many classic books about DOS are no longer published.

I agree with the above statement, especially in China at present. At this stage, I'm afraid we can only find some useful materials on some foreign websites.
