The women in the brothel are like dolls in others' hands, and it's rare for them to make decisions for themselves in their whole life. They fawn on elegance and cling to power and wealth, just to end their flashy and empty life in the brothel, find their true love and live a peaceful life...
Hongfu Who Recognized the Talented One with Keen Insight
Hongfu Nv had the surname Zhang. During the war chaos in the Southern and Northern Dynasties, she was stranded in Chang'an and sold into the mansion of Prime Minister Yang Su as a singing girl. Because she held a red dust whisk, she was called Hongfu Nv.
There was a talented person named Li Jing in Sanyuan who was proficient in both civil and military affairs. He was well-versed in military strategies and had great ambitions. After the founding of the Sui Dynasty, he decided to go to Chang'an to seek a way to serve the country. In Chang'an, he first went to Yang Su's door. Yang Su was very neglectful at first. Later, after talking with Li Jing, he felt that this person had a bright future. But after all, he was old and weak, no longer had great ideals, and just was content with the status quo. Li Jing was very disappointed. When the two were talking, Hongfu stood by the side. She saw that Li Jing had a very extraordinary bearing and was a chivalrous and heroic person, and secretly admired him in her heart. So she sent a servant to follow Li Jing, found out his residence, and went to him late at night.
One night, Li Jing was sitting alone in front of the lamp, thinking about the events of the day, feeling that the future was bleak, and was feeling depressed. Suddenly, he heard a knock on the door. When he opened the door, it was actually the maid he saw in Prime Minister Yang's mansion during the day. Hongfu came straight to the point to show her heart: she was willing to go to Li Jing and accompany him to travel around the world. Li Jing was overjoyed, but also worried about how to explain to Yang Su. Hongfu comforted him and said: Yang Su was old, and many maids had escaped from the mansion later, and the Prime Minister's mansion would not pursue it.
Li Jing was very gratified to see that there was a beautiful woman who understood him and was willing to dedicate her life, and immediately agreed. The Prime Minister's mansion couldn't find Hongfu and sent people to inquire for several days, and finally it ended up being nothing. So Hongfu and Li Jing dressed up as merchants and left Chang'an.
The two traveled all the way. When they stopped at an inn in Lingshi, they met a man with a bushy beard. This person called himself Qiu R髯 Ke. Hongfu saw that he seemed crude, but had an extraordinary temperament, so she made him her brother. The three of them went to Fenyang and met Li Yuan and Li Shimin. After talking for a while, Li Jing and Li Shimin suddenly felt that they hit it off immediately, but Qiu R髯 Ke said: "Since there is the true lord here, I will find another way." A few days later, news came that Yang Su had died of old age in Chang'an. Li Shimin invited the three of them to the mansion to discuss. Li Jing and Hongfu went to Li's mansion, but Qiu R髯 Ke didn't go alone, saying that he would wait for them in Chang'an.
Later, when Li Jing and Hongfu found Qiu R髯 Ke in Chang'an, they found that he was a very wealthy person. What was even more incredible was that Qiu R髯 Ke insisted on giving all his family property to them, and he only took a small bag and went away to other places. The two watched Qiu R髯 Ke go away, and when they went back, they found some things in his home, and actually found several books of military strategies. Li Jing studied day and night, and his military strategies greatly increased. After Li Yuan and his son raised their army, Li Jing showed his military talents, helped Li Yuan and his son pacify Jiangnan, and established the Great Tang. And he attacked Tujue, captured Khan Jieli, and was named Duke of Wei. Hongfu naturally became a first-rank lady.
And it is said that Qiu R髯 Ke organized an army and rushed into the sea to the country of Fusang, overthrew its regime and established himself as emperor.

Female Scholar Xue Tao
Originally, Xue Xun, who served as an official in the capital, moved to Shu with his wife Pei. Not long after, Pei gave birth to a girl, named Xue Tao, with the style name Hongdu, indicating that she was born in the midst of turbulent waves.
When Xue Tao was eight years old, her father asked her to compose a poem on the sycamore tree in the courtyard. Xue Tao recited: "A ancient sycamore in the courtyard, its trunk rises into the clouds; the branches welcome birds from the north and south, the leaves send the wind coming and going." Xue Xun was greatly alarmed, thinking that the words "welcome and send" and "coming and going" were ominous signs.
When Xue Tao was fourteen years old, her father passed away. In order to support herself and her mother, she became a courtesan who entertained guests with poetry and music.凭借 her beautiful appearance and peerless talent, she quickly became a famous courtesan in Chengdu.
At that time, the southwest was often harassed by Tubo. The court sent a Jienan Jiedushi to manage the southwest, whose name was Wei Gao. He had long heard of Xue Tao's talent and invited her to compose a poem at the banquet. Xue Tao immediately composed a poem titled "Visiting the Temple of Wushan": "Among the howling of wild apes, I visit Gaotang; along the way, the mist and clouds and the fragrance of plants and trees; the mountain scenery cannot forget Siyu, and the sound of water still weeps for King Xiang. Day and night under the Yangtai Terrace, being rain and cloud, the State of Chu perishes; melancholy, how many willows are in front of the temple, in spring they only compete for the length of eyebrow painting." Wei Gao greatly appreciated it, so Xue Tao became a regular guest at the governor's mansion. Wei Gao originally wanted to appoint Xue Tao as a school official, but unfortunately, her status was humble, so he had to give up.
Because there were several loquat trees in front of Xue Tao's house, Wei Gao used "under the loquat flowers" to describe her residence. From then on, "Loquat Lane" also became an elegant name for brothels.
As Xue Tao's reputation grew larger and larger, Wei Gao disliked her being too ostentatious and originally wanted to demote her to Songzhou. On the way, Xue Tao wrote ten famous farewell poems; collectively called "Ten Parting Poems":
Tamed and lived in the noble gate for four or five years, with soft fur and clean feet, the master loves; for no reason, bit the close relative's guest, unable to sleep on the red silk carpet.
Yue brushes and Xuan brushes first became affectionate, on red paper sprinkling flower-like ink; all because of long use, the tip is exhausted, unable to be held in Wang Xizhi's hand.
White ears, red fur, light green hooves, once galloped to the east and west; for startling the handsome郎君, unable to neigh again in the splendid carriage.
Alone in Longxi with a single body, flying around on the brocade mat; all because of inappropriate words, unable to be replaced in the cage.
Entering and exiting the noble gate, unable to throw away, the master often loves the chirping; carrying mud and dirtying the coral pillow, unable to build a nest again under the beam.
Bright and round, thorough inside and out, the clear light seems to shine on the crystal palace; all because of a little flaw, unable to be in the palm all night.
Playing and jumping in the lotus pond for four or five autumns, often shaking the red tail and playing with the fishing hook; for no reason, broke the lotus flower, unable to swim again in the clear water.
Claws sharp like a blade, eyes like a bell, catching rabbits on the plain is called high sentiment; for no reason,窜to the blue sky, unable to be held on the king's arm.
Thickly planted four or five lines, often betraying the autumn frost with chastity; because of spring bamboo shoots breaking through the wall, unable to cover the jade hall with shade.
Cast and poured golden mirror just opened, first born three or five months wandering; because of being covered by infinite dust, unable to be on the jade platform in the splendid hall.
After reading them, Wei Gao turned from anger to joy and quickly recalled her to Chengdu.
Over several decades, there were eleven Jienan Jiedushi in total, and each one was attracted by her peerless beauty and talent. Just when Xue Tao was forty-two years old, she fell in love wholeheartedly for the first time - Yuan Zhen, who came to Chengdu on official business. Yuan Zhen was exactly eleven years younger than Xue Tao and was a nationally famous talent. He was also deeply attracted by this late beauty. Although there was a great difference in status and age, they spent a year of beautiful time together. After Yuan Zhen returned to Chang'an, he once sent a poem to Xue Tao to express his yearning, but he finally did not come back.
And Xue Tao's yearning for Yuan Zhen was profound. She waited with all her heart to meet her sweetheart again, until she finally realized that she was just a small episode in his life. In her old age, Xue Tao simply put on a Taoist robe, lived in seclusion in a building, and no longer participated in poetry, wine, and flower affairs. She lived such a simple life for nearly twenty years and passed away at the age of sixty-five. At that time, the Jienan Jiedushi Duan Wenchang wrote her epitaph with his own hand: "Tomb of Xue Tao Hongdu, Female Scholar of Xichuan".

Flower Heart Lady's Prophecy Song "Wan Li Chao Tian Qu"
After the fall of the Former Shu, Zhuangzong of the Later Tang Dynasty appointed Meng Zhixiang as the military governor of the two Sichuan regions. After Meng Zhixiang arrived in Sichuan, Zhuangzong was killed. By the time of the death of Emperor Mingzong of the Later Tang, Meng Zhixiang proclaimed himself emperor, but he died not long after. Meng Chang succeeded to the throne.
Meng Chang was a person who knew how to enjoy himself very much. He extensively collected beautiful women from Sichuan to fill his harem, and the most beloved one was Concubine Fei, known as the Flower Heart Lady.
The Flower Heart Lady loved peonies and red gardenias the most. So Meng Chang ordered people from official and civilian families to plant a large number of peonies. Besides spending days and nights with the Flower Heart Lady among the flowers, Meng Chang also summoned all his officials and held a grand feast to enjoy the peonies. Meng Chang drank and feasted every day and gradually felt bored. The Flower Heart Lady cooked sheep's heads with red ginger, pressed them with stones, soaked them in wine, and cut them as thin as paper, which had an endless flavor and was called "绯羊首" (red sheep head).
Meng Chang was most afraid of heat. On the Mohe Pool, he built a crystal palace. The pillars were made of nanmu, the beams were made of agarwood, the windows were inlaid with corals, and the doors were made of jasper. The walls around were not made of bricks and stones, but inlaid with glazed tiles several zhang wide. The curtains and quilts in the palace were extremely luxurious.
Just when the two were living a dissolute and luxurious life, Zhao Kuangyin of the Song Dynasty "put on the yellow robe" and ordered Wang Quanbin, the military governor of Zhongwu, to lead an army of 60,000 to attack Sichuan. The 140,000 Sichuan soldiers guarding Chengdu were routed. Meng Chang tied himself up and went out of the city to surrender. In the beautiful spring, Meng Chang and the Flower Heart Lady were forced to leave their dissolute paradise in Sichuan and go to Bianliang. Zhao Kuangyin had long heard that the Flower Heart Lady was extremely beautiful, so to see her beauty, he rewarded Meng Chang and his family, and when they came to the palace to express their gratitude, he saw the Flower Heart Lady. Seven days later, Meng Chang suddenly died, and many people thought he was poisoned by Zhao Kuangyin. Meng Chang's mother, who was already ashamed for her son's surrender, also starved herself to death. The emperor kept the Flower Heart Lady in the palace to attend banquets and asked her to recite a poem on the spot. The Flower Heart Lady recited: At first leaving the Shu Road, my heart was about to break, the separation and hatred were endless, the spring day was like a year, and I always heard cuckoos on horseback. All three thousand palace ladies had flower-like faces, competing in beauty, their buns were styled as "chao tian" (toward the sky), but who knew today it was a prophecy. This poem was written on the wall of the post station when they passed through Ji萌 Pass when leaving Shu. Back then, in the palace in Chengdu, the Shu lord Meng Chang personally composed "Wan Li Chao Tian Qu" thinking it was a good prophecy of coming to court from afar. Women wearing high buns were all called "chao tian", but it turned out to be the fulfillment of surrendering to the Song Dynasty. The emperor also ordered her to compose a poem. The Flower Heart Lady recited: The king's city wall had the flag of surrender, how could I, in the deep palace, know; Fourteen thousand people all took off their armor, and not one was a man. Zhao Kuangyin was moved by the Flower Heart Lady's nostalgia for her homeland and admired her even more. He took the Flower Heart Lady into the bedroom and soon made her a noble consort.
But the Flower Heart Lady did not forget her husbandly affection for Meng Chang and often secretly paid homage to his portrait. Once, it was seen by Zhao Kuangyin. When he asked her who the portrait was of, she had to say it was the commonly said Son-Sending Zhang Xian. After that, all the concubines in the palace also set up portraits of Zhang Xian.
Later, the Flower Heart Lady offended Zhao Guangyi, the emperor's younger brother, because of political disputes. She was shot and killed by Zhao Guangyi with an arrow during a hunting trip.

唐代的娼妓一般可分成三等,上等接待达官贵族、名人雅士;中等的接待富商巨贾、中小官吏;

Yan Lingbin
In the Tang Dynasty, courtesans were generally divided into three categories. The top category received high-ranking officials, nobles, and distinguished scholars; the middle category received wealthy merchants, big businessmen, and small and medium officials;
The bottom category received anyone regardless of their profession or status. Among the top category, the very top was the "Du Zhi."
For literary and wine gatherings, in addition to idle officials, they often invited distinguished scholars to add fun. There also needed to be a famous courtesan with outstanding talent and appearance, and who was very adroit, to host. Such a host was called a "Du Zhi." A "Du Zhi" must be good at coordinating and dealing with various matters, be all-round, be able to speak and sing, and be erudite.
At that time, among the entire Pingkang Lane, only three people were truly recognized by guests as "Du Zhi," namely Zheng Juju, Xue Chuer, and Yan Lingbin.
Among the three, Zheng Juju debuted the earliest and then gradually withdrew. Xue Chuer was taken as a bride by Guo Duan, the son of Guo Ziyi, with a large sum of money, and only Yan Lingbin was left.
Yan Lingbin had bright eyes and a slender waist, and was graceful. But she was not very enthusiastic about high-ranking officials and nobles, but was very courteous to distinguished scholars, so she had many friends among literati and scholars, and often had all-night talks with them. At that time, literati in Chang'an all took it as an honor to participate in the literary and wine gatherings hosted by Yan Lingbin. And Yan Lingbin had many favorite guests and friends, but did not give her heart to anyone. Because she already had a sweetheart. Her sweetheart was actually Liu Chichi, a "funeral singer" in Chang'an, that is, a poor young man who specialized in singing dirges. Liu Chichi was poor and lowly, but was versatile and talented, able to compose his own lyrics, poems, and essays. The two were in love with each other, and both had a desolate life experience. They secretly made a vow to each other for life, just waiting to save enough money to redeem Yan Lingbin from the brothel.
In a season with a slight chill in spring, when Yan Lingbin hosted a literary and wine gathering, she caught a cold and fell seriously ill. When she felt that her death was approaching, she invited the literati and ink-squires she had interacted with more often to write some farewell words for her. Everyone saw that the former flowers had not fully bloomed but had already withered, and they were all very sad. A few days later, Yan Lingbin finally passed away. The snobbish madam, seeing that the cash cow was gone, in a fit of anger threw the poems and chapters that the scholars sent to pay their respects to her onto the street. It happened that the grief-stricken Liu Chichi picked them up. He carefully picked up each page of the paper slips and hid them in his arms. After Yan Lingbin was buried outside the city, Liu Chichi would go to her grave every day and sing the poems he picked up to his lover one by one.
The poem he sang the most was: Yesterday I sought the fairy, and the hearse suddenly was at the door; life must come to this, and the way of heaven is really hard to discuss. When guests come, everyone joins hands, who will come to pound the basin; it is unbearable that on the sleeves, there are still the old marks of eyebrows. It is said that when Liu Chichi first sang this poem in front of Yan Lingbin's grave, he was drowsy and vaguely saw Yan Lingbin standing in front of the grave smiling at him. Liu Chichi woke up and looked, but did not see Yan Lingbin's shadow, but he thought Yan Lingbin must like this poem.

Wang Youyu
There is a mountain peak named Huiyan Peak in the south of Hengyang City. Because every autumn, flocks of wild geese will fly here and wait to fly back to the north in the coming spring.
During the reign of Emperor Dezong of the Tang Dynasty, there was a woman named Wang Youyu under Huiyan Peak. She was the descendant of a prominent family. Due to the Huang Chao Uprising, she fled with her family to Hengyang. After her parents passed away, relying on her melodious and bright singing voice and elegant and beautiful appearance, she became a singing prostitute.
One day, the local prefect set a banquet in Yanyan Temple to entertain the imperial censor doctor Xia Gong, and called Wang Youyu to add to the entertainment. Wang Youyu sang a "Wild Geese Return", and the whole audience was shocked. Wang Youyu immediately became famous. Liu Fu, a merchant from Luoyang, was a member of a noble family, educated, rich, knowledgeable, and cultivated. He caused trouble in his hometown due to his strong temperament and fled to Hengyang to avoid chaos.
He was deeply attracted by her elegant temperament and moving singing voice, and Wang Youyu also appreciated him. After getting along with him for a period of time, she showed her heart and was willing to accompany him for life. Liu Fu pondered and said: "When I came to Xiangtan in the south, I had a fight with someone and accidentally injured two lives. The maid in the inn saw it. She forced me to marry her, otherwise she would report to the official. I had no way out, so I had to take her with me."
Wang Youyu took out her private savings of 2 million coins, and finally used money and reasoned with her to send Liu Fu's maid wife back to Xiangtan.
Just as the two were about to get married for a hundred years, Liu Fu's father passed away, and Liu Fu had to go home for the funeral. Before leaving, the two swore together that they must wait for each other. But after Liu Fu went back to take care of the funeral, he was kept by the elders in the clan to prevent him from being with the singing prostitute again.
Liu Fu injured an elder clan member in a hurry and was imprisoned. Wang Youyu waited for a long time and didn't see him come back, so she sent someone to inquire.
The person who came back brought the news that Liu Fu was in prison and his thoughts, and Wang Youyu was determined to wait until the sea dried up and the rocks rotted.
When Emperor Dezong of the Tang Dynasty passed away and Emperor Zhaozong of the Tang Dynasty succeeded to the throne, the world was amnestied, and Liu Fu was set free. Just as he was preparing to go south to reunite with his beloved, the war between the vassal towns blocked the traffic, so he had to first find someone to send a letter to Wang Youyu. In the letter, there was a poem: The most painful thing in the world is separation. You love me, I love you. A person stands alone by the green grass bank, and the oar of the painted boat goes east slowly. The sky in Chu is low, looking back, we are both reluctant to part. Later, we also know that we both have wishes, but we don't know when the good time will be. The things in my heart are in a mess like silk. Good days and nights are wasted, and I let you down, we both know. May your heart be sincere, and we can fly together. After Wang Youyu received the letter, she turned the poem into a song and sang it in the restaurant.
However, time flies, and the years are empty. The road between the north and the south is finally blocked. Wang Youyu became more and more desperate and sick. When she knew that there was not much time left, she went to Huiyan Peak every day and sang that poem over and over again. Using her last bit of strength, she fell off the cliff. Only the wild geese passed her singing to the Liu Lang on the way south.

不久温庭筠离开长安,鱼玄机写下一首《遥寄飞卿》表达思念远人:阶砌乱蛩鸣,庭柯烟雾清;
The Fish Xuji Who Lost Her Life Due to Jealousy (Picture)
Xuji, originally named Youwei, styled Huilan, was born during the reign of Emperor Wuzong of the Tang Dynasty. She was carefully cultivated by her father since childhood. She could recite poems at the age of five, composed writings at the age of seven, and became somewhat famous at the age of eleven or twelve. And the person who knew and appreciated her most was the great poet Wen Tingyun at that time.
After Xuji's father passed away, she and her mother moved to Pingkangli - the gathering place of brothels at that time, and did some washing work to make a living. Wen Tingyun came with admiration, found Xuji, and asked her to compose a poem on the spot with "Willow by the River" as the topic. The little girl read calmly: "Green color connects the desolate bank, misty posture enters the distant building; shadow spreads on the spring water surface, flowers fall on the angler's head. Roots are old hiding fish dens, branches are at the bottom mooring guests' boats; desolate wind and rain night, startles dreams and adds more sorrow." Wen Tingyun was convinced by her talent and became her teacher.
Wen Tingyun left Chang'an, and Yu Xuanji wrote a poem "Sending to Feiqing from Afar" to express her yearning for the distant person: "The chaotic cricket chirps on the steps, the court trees are clear in mist and smoke; the music from the neighbor resounds in the moon, the distant sun is bright on the building. The cool wind touches the pillow mat, the ballad zither conveys hatred; you are lazy in writing letters, what can comfort the autumn feelings?" Wen Tingyun and Yu Xuanji always maintained a relationship between teacher-student and friend.
During the reign of Emperor Yizong of the Tang Dynasty, Wen Tingyun returned to Chang'an. One day, the two went to visit Chongzhen Temple in the south of the city with beautiful scenery and saw a group of newly promoted scholars competing to write poems. Yu Xuanji was very envious and secretly wrote on the wall: "Cloud peaks and full moon let spring sunshine out, clearly silver hooks are born under the fingers; self-resentful that silk clothes cover the poem, look up and empty admire the name on the list." This poem was seen by Li Yi, a descendant of a famous family who had just arrived in Chang'an. He admired Yu Xuanji's talent very much, and since he had met Wen Tingyun once, he found Wen Tingyun and asked him to help introduce them. Wen Tingyun appreciated Li Yi very much and was willing to make them come together.
With the help of Wen Tingyun, Li Yi happily took this talented woman into his family and placed her in Linting Villa. Unexpectedly, Li Yi's original wife Pei heard the news and came. As soon as she entered the door, she flogged Yu Xuanji without saying a word. After two days, she forced Li Yi to write a divorce letter and drove her out.
Li Yi secretly found a secluded Taoist temple - Xianyi Temple in the Qujiang area, and donated a not-small amount of oil money to settle Yu Xuanji there. The dharma name "Xuanji" was given by the abbot of the temple. The two missed each other day and night, but unfortunately Li Yi was restricted by his wife and couldn't come. After a few years, he left Yu Xuanji and went to Yangzhou with his family to take up an official position. Yu Xuanji was deeply hit. At this time, the abbot of the temple had passed away, and there was only Yu Xuanji in the temple. Her loneliness can be imagined. Yu Xuanji changed her previous self-discipline and indulged herself. She took in a few apprentices in the temple to act as maids. She posted "Yu Xuanji's poems and writings waiting for instruction" outside the temple, just like the colorful flag of a brothel.顿时 the temple was full of guests, and pilgrims and scholars spent all day tasting tea and talking about poems, and those with handsome appearance were stayed in the temple by her.
At that time, she favored a failed scholar named Zuo Mingyang because his appearance resembled Li Yi very much, and Zuo Mingyang often stayed in her room. At that time, there was an official Pei Cheng who was very in love with Yu Xuanji, but Yu Xuanji hated people with the surname Pei very much because she was driven out by Li Yi's wife Pei, so she kept away from Pei Cheng.
One day, three noble young men came to the temple, also bringing a musician. Yu Xuanji was used to seeing the young men, but the musician Chen Wei who was burly and elegant in manner greatly moved her heart. She frequently passed her feelings with her eyes, and how could Chen Wei not understand? He came quietly the next night, and the two were as close as glue.
Several apprentices in Yu Xuanji's temple gradually grew up and, exposed to it day by day, inherited a lot of Yu Xuanji's coquettish skills. A girl named Lu Qiao had a relationship with Chen Wei. One day, after Yu Xuanji came back, Lu Qiao said to her: "Chen Wei came to see you, and left when he saw you weren't here." Yu Xuanji thought that Chen Wei always waited for her to come back, why did he leave today? Then she saw Lu Qiao's cheeks were slightly red and her hair was messy, and she immediately understood. So she called Lu Qiao into the room, ordered her to take off her clothes and checked carefully, and found nail scratches on her chest. So she picked up a rattan stick and beat her, and asked severely. Lu Qiao retorted, listing Yu Xuanji's romantic affairs. In a fit of anger, Yu Xuanji grabbed Lu Qiao's neck and banged her head against the wall. When she let go, she found that Lu Qiao had died. Yu Xuanji buried Lu Qiao's body in the yard while it was dark.
Unexpectedly, a few months later, a guest found many flies gathering on the soil in the yard and felt very suspicious, so he reported to the official. People from the government office came to dig up the floating soil and saw Lu Qiao's body. Yu Xuanji was brought to the court, and it turned out that the person interrogating the case was Pei Cheng who she had rejected back then. As you can imagine, her twenty-six-year-old life ended like this.

Li Shishi Who Captivated Emperor Huizong of Song
Originally, Li Shishi was the daughter of Wang Yin, who operated a dye workshop in Bianjing. When she was three years old, her father sent her to a Buddhist temple to be registered. When the old monk gave her a scalp massage, she suddenly burst into tears. The old monk thought she resembled a Buddhist disciple very much. Since people called Buddhist disciples "shi", she was thus named Li Shishi. After a year, her father died in prison due to a crime. She was raised by neighbors and gradually grew into a beautiful woman with fair skin. Li Ao, who operated a brothel, adopted her and taught her playing the qin, chess, calligraphy, painting, singing, dancing, and serving others. For a time, Li Shishi became a famous courtesan in Bianjing, and was the object of competition among scholars, elegant people, and noble young men. Finally, even Emperor Huizong of Song heard her name and wanted to get close to her. Gao Qiu and Yang Jian naturally instigated Emperor Huizong and solemnly guaranteed that the news would not leak out.
As soon as he saw Li Shishi, Emperor Huizong felt that all these years had been in vain. Li Shishi's demeanor of neither being humble nor overbearing and gentle and intelligent made Emperor Huizong feel as if in a dream. Li Shishi had long known Gao Qiu. Seeing that the powerful and high-ranking Lord Gao was extremely respectful to this strange guest, she was puzzled, but could be sure that this was also a high-ranking official and noble who could not be offended, so she served him attentively.
The next day, before dawn, Emperor Huizong hurriedly put on his clothes and rushed back to court with Gao Qiu and Yang Jian. From then on, Emperor Huizong turned a blind eye to the beautiful women in the harem. From time to time, under the pretext of observing the feelings of the people, he went out of the palace to Li Shishi's place for pleasure. Sometimes he also called Grand Scholar Wang Fu to go with him. Li Shishi gradually also knew his true identity. How dare she not flatter him when the Emperor came! Now Li Shishi was no longer what she used to be. Although her identity was still that of a famous courtesan, she was also "a famous flower with an owner". Powerful princes and nobles could only look at "Shi" and sigh.
But there was Jia Yi, a military official, who had a deep friendship with Li Shishi before. One day he met Li Shishi by chance, so he stayed at her house. After drinking, he could not help but be full of jealousy and wrote a poem satirizing Emperor Huizong: Walking leisurely in front of the small building, I saw a beauty as if she were a fairy; I secretly thought that the emperor's feelings were like a dream, chasing pleasure and holding hands, in the fragrant room unrestrainedly, talking about the oath all night. A full handful of sandalwood exuded auspicious smoke, reporting that he had gone back to court early and returned late, leaving fine silk as the money for staying overnight. When Emperor Huizong heard about it, he was very angry and almost killed him. Finally, he was demoted to Qiongzhou to be a military officer.
In fact, among all the guests,
Li Shishi most favored the great scholar Zhou Bangyan. Once Emperor Huizong was ill, Zhou Bangyan took advantage of this gap to come to visit Li Shishi. The two were chatting when suddenly it was reported that the emperor was coming. Zhou Bangyan had no time to hide and hid under the bed. Emperor Huizong gave Li Shishi a fresh orange, chatted for a while and was about to return to the palace. Li Shishi pretended to keep him and said: "It's already the third watch, the horse is slippery and the frost is thick, the dragon's body is important." And Emperor Huizong, because his body was not fully recovered, did not dare to stay overnight and left in a hurry.
Zhou Bangyan added a sour poem: The scissors from Bing are as sharp as water, the salt from Wu is whiter than snow, and slender fingers break the new orange. The brocade curtain is just warm, the beast incense is continuous, and we sit opposite to tune the zither. Whispering and asking: Where did you stay? It's already the third watch on the city wall, the horse is slippery and the frost is thick, it's better not to go, it's really few people walking. Who knew that after Emperor Huizong recovered, he came to Li Shishi's place for a banquet. Li Shishi forgot herself for a moment and sang this poem. Emperor Huizong asked who wrote it. Li Shishi casually said it was Zhou Bangyan, and immediately regretted it after speaking. Emperor Huizong immediately understood that Zhou Bangyan must have been in the room that day. His face changed suddenly. After a few days, he found an excuse to demote Zhou Bangyan out of Bianjing.
Li Shishi saw him off and sang Zhou Bangyan's song "Lanling Wang" to Emperor Huizong: The willow shade is straight, the silk in the smoke is playing with green, on the Sui Embankment, I have seen several times brushing the water, floating catkins seeing off the journey. Climbing to look at the homeland, who foretells the tired guest in the capital, on the long pavilion road, year after year, should have broken mulberry branches over a thousand feet, casually looking for the old traces, and then wine follows the sad strings, the lights reflect the parting seat. The pear blossoms and elm fire urge the Cold Food Festival, a sorrow cut, the wind is fast and half the pole is warm, looking back, it's already several post stations, looking at the person in the north is sad. Hate accumulates, gradually the side stream is winding, the ferry posts are silent. The setting sun is slowly rising, spring is endless, remembering the hand in hand at the moon pavilion, hearing the flute at the dew bridge, thinking about the past is like a dream, tears secretly drop. Emperor Huizong also felt too severe, so he called Zhou Bangyan back again.
Emperor Huizong indulged in pleasures and neglected his duties, and was indifferent to the crises on the border. Finally, he became a captive in the Jingkang Disaster. The Jin army originally wanted to capture Li Shishi together, but failed. After the Southern Song Dynasty moved south, the whereabouts of Li Shishi were unknown. Some said she donated her family property to resist the Jin army and entered the monastery by herself. Some said she was captured by the Jin army and committed suicide by swallowing gold. Others said she casually married a merchant and later drowned in the Qiantang River.

Liang Hongyu, Who Beat Drums to Resist the Jin Army
Liang Hongyu was born in the first year of Chongning in Emperor Huizong of the Song Dynasty. Her ancestral home was Chizhou. Both her grandfather and father were from military backgrounds. Liang Hongyu practiced martial arts with her brothers and sisters since childhood. In the second year of Xuanhe in Emperor Huizong of the Song Dynasty, Fang La launched an uprising. Her grandfather and father were killed due to failing to seize the opportunity, and Liang Hongyu also fell into being a camp prostitute in Jingkou. The imperial court sent Tong Guan to lead troops to suppress Fang La, and finally Fang La was captured by Han Shizhong.
After suppressing Fang La, at the celebration banquet, Han Shizhong and Liang Hongyu first met, they fell in love with each other at first sight and finally became a couple. Their loving life accompanied the war all the time. After Liang Hongyu became pregnant, she stayed in the capital city, but was detained by Miao Fu and Liu Zhengyan. However, the two did not dare to make things difficult for their mother and son because of Han Shizhong's bravery.
At this time, Emperor Gaozong of the Song Dynasty had no freedom of action. Empress Dowager Longyu and Prime Minister Zhu Shengfei secretly sent Liang Hongyu to驰往 Xiuzhou, urging Han Shizhong to come for assistance, and enfeoffed Han Shizhong as the left general of the imperial camp to suppress bandits, and enfeoffed Liang Hongyu as Lady An Guo. Han Shizhong quickly suppressed the rebellion of Miao Fu and others and was appointed as the military governor of Wusheng Army.
That winter, the Jurchens invaded again, crossing the river from Huangzhou and Caishiji, directly approaching Lin'an. Emperor Gaozong of the Song Dynasty fled to Yuezhou. Han Shizhong stayed behind in Xiuzhou. On the Lantern Festival of the fourth year of Jianyan, Wuzhu of the Jurchens sent a challenge letter to Han Shizhong, agreeing to start the war the next day. Han Shizhong followed Liang Hongyu's strategy to divide the Song army into two parts, using the flag waving in the central army as a signal to carry out encirclement and interception. As a result, the Jurchen army was defeated. Han Shizhong sang loudly: Thousands of miles of the Yangtze River, can't wash away the lofty feelings of autumn, don't talk about the palaces of the Qin and Han dynasties, the jade platforms and silver palaces, the long sword is outside the misty air with the sky, the precious light is hanging on the side of the smoke and dust by the sun! Pat the sleeves towards the stars to straighten the world, the news stops. The tigers and dragons howl, the phoenixes and clouds weep, the hatred through the ages, talk about it by the Huai River. Looking at the mountains and rivers sincerely, tears wet the blood on the chest. The Qiang flute is played at night by the Bian River, and the imperial carriage has grown old in the tent of Liaoyang. Break the spittoon, ask the toad, why is the circle incomplete?
There was a spy who offered a plan to Wuzhu of the Jurchens: cover the ship boards with soil and burn Han Shizhong's warships with rocket arrows. But Han Shizhong used Liang Hongyu's strategy to win with fewer troops than the enemy, and surrounded the enemy army for nearly fifty days, making the Jurchen army dare not randomly cross the river to invade.
After Yue Fei was framed and killed, Han Shizhong was also stripped of his military power. He simply resigned from his official position and spent the rest of his life with Liang Hongyu until old age.

Xin the Southern Song Dynasty, there was a beautiful courtesan named Meiniang in Hangzhou. Her original name was Xin Yaoqin. She was separated from her parents during the war and sold into a brothel.
When she was fourteen years old, she was already extremely beautiful. But she only wanted to be a clean courtesan and refused to receive customers. The madam got her drunk and sold her first night to a wealthy man surnamed Jin. Xin Yaoqin woke up the next day in great pain, but her fellow sisters persuaded her that since she had come to this point, she should receive customers, find a suitable person to get married and leave the brothel as soon as possible, and also save some silver for her future redemption. Xin Yaoqin no longer resisted and happily complied, and soon she was called "the Flower Quail".
Outside Qingbo Gate in Hangzhou, there was an oil shop owner named Zhu Shilao who adopted a young servant from Bianjing named Qin Zhong, who was renamed Zhu Chong. Now he was seventeen years old, and helped Zhu Shilao squeeze oil and sell oil every day. But Zhu Shilao's maidservant Lan Hua had bad intentions, colluded with the clerk Xing Quan, sowed discord, and made Zhu Shilao drive Zhu Chong out.
Zhu Chong had to sell oil door to door. One day he went to Zhaoqing Temple outside Qiantang Gate to sell oil. Coincidentally, the temple was going to do nine days and nights of merit. He carried oil to Zhaoqing Temple for nine consecutive days. On the ninth day, Qin Zhong rested on a stone and saw a woman as beautiful as peaches and plums coming out of the temple. He was stunned. After inquiring around, he found out that it was the Flower Quail. Zhu Chong knew that with his own status, he had no way to see this beautiful woman again, but "where there is a will, there is a way." He worked hard from then on, saving silver cent by cent. After a year, he finally saved more than ten taels of silver. He bought a decent set of clothes and came with the remaining silver. But the Flower Quail was quite busy, and had social engagements every day. Zhu Chong made more than a dozen trips in vain, but he still didn't give up. The madam was finally moved. Once, she let Zhu Chong wait for her in Xin Yaoqin's room.
When Xin Yaoqin came back at night, she was already drunk and lay down in her clothes. Zhu Chong lay beside her all night. Except for covering her with a quilt and pouring tea, he just admired her beautiful face. He had no intention of violating her. Xin Yaoqin was very moved when she woke up the next day. She had never seen such an honest and honest man, so she secretly fell in love with him and gave him twenty taels of silver.
At this time, Zhu Shilao was sick in bed. Xing Quan and Lan Hua stole the silver in the cabinet late at night. Zhu Shilao then thought of the good of Zhu Chong. He found Zhu Chong back. Zhu Chong didn't hold a grudge. He used the silver given by Xin Yaoqin as capital to start business again. But Zhu Shilao's condition became more and more serious and he died soon. Zhu Chong was too busy alone, so he took in a middle-aged man from Bianjing who had fled and his wife Ruan Shi. This middle-aged man was surnamed Xin Shan, who was exactly the father of Xin Yaoqin who had been lost in her childhood. Zhu Chong didn't know.
There was a Wu Bagongzi in Hangzhou. He had a bad character and had long coveted Xin Yaoqin. One day, he forcibly took Xin Yaoqin to a boat in the lake and wanted to molest her. Xin Yaoqin had always disliked him and refused to obey. Wu Bagongzi took off her embroidered shoes and bound feet cloth and let her walk back by herself. Xin Yaoqin felt extremely humiliated and in great pain. She happened to run into Zhu Chong passing by. Zhu Chong sent her back. Xin Yaoqin admired him even more. Even the madam thought he was a rare honest person. Xin Yaoqin took out her savings over the years and asked Qin Zhong to redeem her from the brothel.
When the two got married, Xin Yaoqin also recognized her parents who had been separated for many years. It was really double happiness.

Wang Zhaoyun, styled Zixia, was from Qiantang. Due to a poor family background, she fell into a singing and dancing troupe since childhood, but she had a unique fresh and elegant temperament. In the fourth year of Emperor Shenzong of the Song Dynasty, Su Dongpo was demoted to be the Tongpan (assistant magistrate) of Hangzhou. One day, at a banquet, he saw the light and graceful dancing Wang Zhaoyun, doted on her extremely, and married her as a concubine. At this time, Su Dongpo was already forty years old.
Su Dongpo was a person with a bold and unconstrained temperament. He expounded his political views freely in his poems and essays, which offended the powerful in the court, and he was demoted several times. Among Su Dongpo's concubines, Wang Zhaoyun best understood Su Dongpo's mind. Once, Su Dongpo returned home after court, pointed at his abdomen and asked the concubines: "Who among you knows what's inside here?" One answered: "Articles." Another said: "Insights." Su Dongpo shook his head. Wang Zhaoyun smiled and said: "There are nothing but out-of -season ideas in your belly." Su Dongpo heard this and praised: "The one who understands me is only Zhaoyun."
Su Dongpo stayed in Hangzhou for four years, and then was transferred to Mi Zhou, Xu Zhou, and Hu Zhou. Because of the "Wutai Poem Case", he was demoted to be the Deputy Magistrate of Huang Zhou. During this period, Wang Zhaoyun always followed closely. In Huang Zhou, their life was very poor. In the sixth year of Yuanfeng, Wang Zhaoyun gave birth to a son for Su Dongpo, named Sui Li.
After Emperor Shenzong of the Song Dynasty passed away, Emperor Zhezong of the Song Dynasty ascended the throne and appointed Sima Guang as the prime minister, abolishing all of Wang Anshi's new laws completely; Su Dongpo was recalled to the capital and promoted to be the Dragon Pavilion Scholar, and concurrently served as the imperial tutor for the young emperor. At this time, Su Dongpo was very appreciated by Empress Dowager Xuanren and the young emperor who was only twelve years old, and he was very successful politically. Su Dongpo often missed his deceased first wife Wang Fu: "Ten years of life and death are all apart, I don't think about it, but I can't forget it myself. A lonely grave thousands of miles away, there's no place to talk about the desolation. Even if we meet again, you probably won't recognize me, with frost on my face and temples. Last night, I suddenly had a dream returning to my hometown. By the small window in the small chamber, you were dressing up. We looked at each other without a word, only tears streaming down. I guess every year the place that breaks my heart is, under the pine mound by the bright moon at night."
Two years later, Su Dongpo was once again demoted to be the magistrate of Hangzhou. The people of Hangzhou loved him very much. After that, Su Dongpo successively served as the magistrate of Ying Zhou and Yang Zhou. When Emperor Zhezong appointed Zhang Dun as the prime minister, Su Dongpo, who had different political views, was demoted to Huizhou (now Huiyang District, Guangdong Province), which was a place of southern barbarians. At this time, he was already nearly sixty years old. The concubines around him left one after another, but only Wang Zhaoyun followed all the time. Su Dongpo sighed and wrote a poem: "Not like Yang Zhi parting from Bai Juyi, just like Tong De accompanying Ling Yuan; A Nu and Luo Xiu didn't grow old together, without a daughter, Weimo always understood Buddhism. Sutras and medicine stoves are new pastimes, dancing shirts and song boards are old relationships; When the elixir is completed, follow me to the three mountains; Don't be the fairy of Wushan clouds and rain." The preface said: "My family has several concubines, and they left one after another within four or five years. Only Zhaoyun followed me to the south. Because I read Bai Juyi's poem, I made this playfully to give to her."
Wang Zhaoyun gave birth to another son for Su Dongpo in Huizhou, named Gan'er. After giving birth, her body was weak, and soon she passed away unfortunately, only thirty-four years old. After Wang Zhaoyun's death, Su Dongpo buried her in the pine forest at the foot of the Gushan Mountain on the West Lake of Huizhou, under the Great Sage Pagoda of Qisi Temple. And he built the Liuru Pavilion on the tomb to commemorate her. There is a couplet on the pavilion pillars: Only Zhaoyun can understand me for having out-of -season ideas; Whenever there is evening rain, I miss you even more when playing ancient tunes alone.

Guan Panpan in Yanzi Tower
Panpan was born in the Zhenyuan period of Emperor Dezong of the Tang Dynasty. Because she came from a scholarly family, she was proficient in poetry and prose, and also had singing and dancing skills. Her beautiful appearance made countless wealthy young men yearn for her. But the good times didn't last long. The Guan family's family declined, and Guan Panpan was taken as a concubine by Zhang Yin, the governor of Xuzhou, with a heavy gift. Although Zhang Yin was a military man, he liked elegant literature and music and dancing. So although he had many concubines, he only paid attention to Guan Panpan.
Once Bai Juyi came to Zhang's house as a guest, Guan Panpan performed singing and dancing for the guests. Bai Juyi praised her greatly and said that Guan Panpan was "Drunk and charming beyond compare, like a wind-swayed peony".
Two years later, Zhang Yin died in Xuzhou. The concubines of the Zhang family went their own ways, but Guan Panpan was determined to keep her chastity. She lived in Yanzi Tower on the outskirts of Xuzhou with an elderly servant, leading a simple and unworldly life. Yanzi Tower was a villa built by Zhang Yin for Guan Panpan before his death. Because there was a small river in front of the building and willows were planted by the river, every spring, pairs of swallows flew between the willows, hence the name Yanzi Tower. Now only Guan Panpan lived there alone.
Her loyal and unswerving virtue won many praises, but one person had a different opinion, and that person was Bai Juyi.
Bai Juyi was deeply moved by Panpan's deep affection, but he thought that since Guan Panpan was so affectionate, why didn't she follow Zhang Yin to the netherworld? Wouldn't that be more complete? So he wrote a poem:
Gold is not sparing to buy beautiful women, choosing four or five like flowers; singing and dancing taught with all one's heart, but when one dies one doesn't follow.
Maybe Bai Juyi didn't mean to force Guan Panpan to die for love when he wrote this poem, but Guan Panpan didn't think so when she read it. She cried loudly: I have kept my chastity for Zhang Yin for ten years, not because I cherish my life and refuse to go with him, but I am afraid that people will talk about my husband being lustful and forcing his beloved concubine to die for him, which would sully my husband's good name?! Why is Bai Juyi so cold-blooded, forcing me to go to a dead end?!
In anger, Guan Panpan began to fast, and no one's persuasion could change her mind. When she was thin and haggard, she wrote a poem aimed at Bai Juyi: Children don't recognize the object that shoots to the sky, casually smearing blue mud on the snow-white brush.
When Bai Juyi heard the news of Guan Panpan's death, he was very shocked. He felt that he had an inescapable responsibility. He was both admiring and guilty. Maybe because of this experience, in his old age, he let his concubines Fan Su and Xiaoman go their own ways to avoid a tragedy like Guan Panpan's.

War Torn Apart Lovers
During the reign of Emperor Xianzong of the Ming Dynasty, there were two famous courtesans by the Qinhuai River—Shao San and Yang Yuxiang. Shao San’s Yaohua Pavilion and Yang Yuxiang’s Qionghua Pavilion were adjacent to each other, and the two had a very close relationship. Shao San was a bit older, gentle and kind. Yang Yuxiang was a bit younger, with outstanding talent and a proud and lofty nature.
One day, Lin Jingqing, a young man from a prominent family in Min County, was ordered to go to the court. When passing by here, he came to Yaohua Pavilion to admire flowers. He was immediately charmed by Shao San’s charming demeanor. Shao San also kindly set a feast for him. The two drank and had fun together. Lin Jingqing even left a poem of praise: Pearls and jade adorn her green hairpin, Her gauze skirt faintly reflects the spring jacket; In vain they sing Taoye like the great order, How can it compare to leaning on Shao San by the flower.
The next day, Yang Yuxiang came to visit Shao San. Inadvertently, she discovered the poem on the table. She only felt that the literary talent was overflowing and it was endless to savor. So she picked up a pen and wrote on the back: A tune of Ni Chang couldn’t be played, I reluctantly came to the side courtyard to listen to Yaosheng; Opening the curtain suddenly feels the spring is warm, The whole paper is dripping with white clouds. The four characters “full paper dripping” precisely expressed her admiration. Shao San was a discerning person and immediately saw through Yang Yuxiang’s thoughts. She immediately said, “I am willing to be a matchmaker for you two.” Coincidentally, Lin Jingqing was visiting at this moment. And Yang Yuxiang was unwilling to meet in a hurry and embarrassment, so she hurriedly ran to the side door. As soon as Lin Jingqing entered the courtyard, he saw a figure walking out of the side door. The red clothes and pink cheeks flashed by. Lin Jingqing just stared blankly at the empty side door. Shao San saw him in a trance and smiled and said, “That is my younger sister, Yang Yuxiang next door.” Lin Jingqing frankly said that he wanted to get to know that beauty and hoped that Shao San would introduce her. Shao San readily agreed.
The next morning, Shao San took Lin Jingqing to Qionghua Pavilion. Yang Yuxiang was still in red skirt and pink face, smiling and being polite. The three talked freely and spent a happy day. After dinner, the alcohol was gradually wearing off, and Lin Jingqing was even more “drunk not by wine but by the person himself”. Shao San wisely left, and the two became a perfect couple under the red candle and silk curtains.
After this night of lingering, Lin Jingqing and Yang Yuxiang were really in constant love, inseparable, just like newlyweds. After several months, Lin Jingqing’s father urged him to return home. He had to first return to his hometown, explain to his parents, and then come to pick up Yang Yuxiang. Before leaving, Yang Yuxiang solemnly changed Qionghua Pavilion to Yiqing Pavilion, indicating that this pavilion would only receive Lin Jingqing from now on, and no other guests. Lin Jingqing wrote a “Zhegu Tian” to bid farewell:
A few words of delicate eyebrows hate not to open, The balcony is now a platform for looking at her husband. The moon is just at its best when people part, The tide is not yet calm when the servant has urged! Listen to the instructions, don’t doubt or guess, There is a way to Penghu to go and come back. The same willows hanging down gracefully, Don’t grow by other people’s doors!
The last sentence expressed his worry that Yang Yuxiang would “rely on other people’s doors”. Yang Yuxiang anded a “Zhegu Tian” to show her heart: The郎 is the first-class in southern Fujian, His chest is full of stars and qi, shining across autumn. The new song is婉转 and just finished singing, And then the migrating geese left the blue building. Pull the brocade cable, take the orchid boat, Happy to see the郎 but sad to part from the郎, My heart is just like the Yangtze River water, Day and night following the郎 to Fuzhou.
After Lin Jingqing left, Yang Yuxiang looked forward to it every day, and finally waited for six years until she walked from the starting point of hope to the end point of despair.
In fact, Lin Jingqing’s life was not easy either. He originally wanted to pick up Yang Yuxiang to get married as soon as possible, but before he could set off, he encountered Japanese pirates invading the coastal areas, and the northward journey was blocked. Lin Jingqing was anxious at home, and finally, when the disaster of Japanese pirates subsided, he immediately set off, eager to cross back to Jinling in one step.
When he reached Baisha Ferry, one night he suddenly saw Yang Yuxiang standing on the riverbank. Lin Jingqing called out loudly. Yang Yuxiang suddenly floated across the river. Lin Jingqing didn’t have time to think carefully and tightly hugged her, pouring out the pain of parting. The two talked all night on the beach. Seeing the dawn break, Lin Jingqing suddenly found that his sweetheart was gone, and suddenly woke up, but it was a dream. Lin Jingqing immediately had an ominous premonition and rushed to Jinling day and night.
As soon as he entered Yiqing Pavilion, he saw Shao San in plain clothes crying there, and Yang Yuxiang’s coffin was in the inner room. Lin Jingqing cried over the coffin. Shao San told him: Yang Yuxiang had been suffering from waiting every day and died of depression. Her death date was the day when Lin Jingqing was on the Baisha River.
The next day, Shao San found that Lin Jingqing was lying next to Yang Yuxiang in the coffin, dead.

Not bad. Doesn't Su Shi's "Yongyule" mention Pan Pan?
