Can use a USB flash drive to boot the computer into DOS, but in DOS, it cannot access other partitions except the primary partition of the hard disk. Another problem is that all the programs of DM are also copied to the DOS root directory, but it cannot be used, that is, the hard disk cannot be found. Also, when booting to PE from the USB flash drive, the local hard disk on the computer cannot be found. How to solve this? (Example: boot the machine from the USB flash drive into DOS, then use DM to install the system for a new hard disk computer, and then find that DM cannot be used. Adjust the hard disk to IDE mode, can only find the primary partition, cannot find the logical partition. The USB flash drive is formatted in HDD mode, and the drive letter is considered as C.)

After booting DOS from the hard drive and running dm, can you see the hard drive?

Can't see. Actually, my purpose is very simple. As long as I can use a USB flash drive to boot a new computer and then partition and install the system. I have to install many computers every day. Installing with optical discs is not fast enough. If I install many computers at the same time, I have to burn many discs, which is troublesome. Because most current computers support USB flash drive booting. I'm confused. Things that can be done with optical discs can theoretically be done with USB flash drive booting! Please solve!

If the LZ boots DOS from the hard drive and can't see the hard drive with DM, then it has nothing to do with the USB flash drive. This is either a problem with DM or the motherboard itself.

Try using other tools to see if they can recognize it? Such as sfdisk or diskgen. You install many machines every day. Why not do network cloning in PXE mode? That would be faster. PXE boot can be in the way of maxdos. Not the kind of network card that requires a PXE chip.

Although I have indeed seen some hard disk controllers that do not support DOS, that was an HP server, and its RAID card's BIOS simply does not support DOS. Even that server does not support the DOS system. However, I have indeed not seen a PC that completely does not support DOS. Moreover, the owner mentioned that the active partition of the hard disk can be seen under DOS. From this, it is inferred that DOS should be able to see the entire hard disk. As for DM not being able to see it, I suspect this is an issue with the DM software. I don't understand why one must use DM for partitioning. I have always used PQ and haven't felt any problems.

Although I don't use DM much, I've used it at least a bit, and I really don't find it has much flexibility. Is it compared with fdisk? I remember there are many versions of DM.

Of course, what partition software to use is purely a matter of personal habit, and there's nothing to say about that. But when the usual path doesn't work, at least you should try to take another path.

Where is it flexible? As far as I know, DM can divide any type of partition. Of course, whether it can be formatted is another matter. Second, the order of the entries in the partition table can be irrelevant to the order of the actual physical positions of the partitions in that entry. With other partition software, you can only line them up in order 1234.

For the above two points, I haven't found another partition software with the same function under DOS.

Try bootstar's bsdos, which also has the function of adjusting the position of partition table entries in the MBR. I used to think only bsdos had this function, but now it seems that dm can also be added. If you just want partitions of any type, the parttype command of grub4dos can meet the need.

DM is not for adjustment, but needs to be arranged during partitioning. If not arranged properly, you can only delete and repartition. Does bsdos only have the adjustment function and no partitioning function?
The above functions can be completed at one time during partitioning by DM.
I'm just partitioning, and it's too troublesome to install grub4dos just for partitioning. I haven't used grub4dos. Can grub4dos run after booting from a floppy disk?

Since 2003 until now, I've been using sfdisk all the time, and then use diskgen to repair lost partitions, etc. DM is scary. I've encountered situations before where it would rewrite the partition table or MBR. Anyway, after running it, all partitions are gone. It's better to use diskgen to get them back. Just occasionally use its low-level format. Disable the IDE interface in BIOS. When booting and starting DM, the hard drive can be seen......

DM9.65 has poor support for hard drives larger than 250G, so it is not recommended.

I've only used 9.55 and 9.57, and I haven't used 9.56. I also haven't tested with a hard drive over 250G. Some say it's possible, some say it's not.

Is that HP server of x86 architecture? What system does it use?
Some HP servers are of IA-64 (that is, Intel Itanium processor) architecture, which is incompatible with DOS.
