NC CFG 1,253 07-12-96 22:27 NC.CFG
NC EXE 3,772 07-12-96 22:27 NC.EXE
NC HLP 68,158 07-12-96 22:27 NC.HLP
NC INI 1,592 10-23-02 11:34 NC.INI
NC MSG 15,927 07-12-96 22:27 NC.MSG
NCMAIN EXE 233,522 04-26-97 23:39 NCMAIN.EXEDISKEDIT
I see that many forums have articles about networking under DOS, using interlnk, LL3, netLite, etc.
But I haven't seen mention of NC, that is, the Link networking function of Norton Commander 5.0.
I think that most networking under DOS is just copying files in an emergency. In this regard, the Link function of NC is the most convenient.
Application:
To copy files between two machines, both machines must have NC files. Run nc, press F9, there is a Link option. One machine selects Master and the other selects Slave, and then you can copy files.
There is also a network item, which I haven't tried.
NC has a main file, only about 300K. It can not only network but also enter Chinese subdirectories. It is very suitable for copying small files of about one or two hundred megabytes. The only shortcoming is that it does not support long filenames. If you copy long filenames, they will become short filenames, but it does not affect the use of the files. You can run nc in the DOS window in Windows.
Main files of NC:
NC CFG 1,253 07-12-96 22:27 NC.CFG
NC EXE 3,772 07-12-96 22:27 NC.EXE
NC HLP 68,158 07-12-96 22:27 NC.HLP
NC INI 1,592 10-23-02 11:34 NC.INI
NC MSG 15,927 07-12-96 22:27 NC.MSG
NCMAIN EXE 233,522 04-26-97 23:39 NCMAIN.EXEDISKEDIT
NC can also clone itself to another machine that doesn't have NC, and then perform networking. You need a serial cable. But it doesn't always succeed, but it is very useful in special cases such as when you can't disassemble the machine.
In addition, there is a file manager similar to NC in the DOS 7.10 boot floppy provided by wengier. It is streamlined and easy to use, and also supports long filenames. It just doesn't support networking, which is really a pity.
At the same time, thank you wengier for providing DOS 7.10, which is excellent.
